DIY: Ombre Vans

It doesn’t get any better than a fresh pair of white Vans. A blank canvas for your kit and for hours of math class doodling. This week’s DIY takes a classic, and makes it custom with a 20 minute dip dye. And because the 4th is almost here, I made mine firework-ready. Ready to upgrade your classic customization from the Sharpie years? Read on for the step-by-step
– White Canvas Shoes (Pictured: Vans Authentic Lo Pro)
– Fabric Dye
– Bucket
– Gloves
– Hot Water

STEP 1: Add about a cup of salt to your bucket

STEP 2: Add dye packet. I’d suggest you put the gloves on at this step. And keep them on until you’re 100% done.

STEP 3: Add hot water.

STEP 4: Stir it up. Now you also have an ombre spoon.

STEP 5: Take a dip. Soak the part of the shoe you want to keep light in water, then submerge the shoes all of the way into the water/dye/salt bucket. Slowly pull them out, allowing the ends to stay in the dye until you get the color you want.

STEP 6: Rinse off any extra dye. Let ’em dry.
TIP: If you mess up, there’s always bleach.
