Did you get your cute little mitts on another one of your boyfriend’s surf tees. Good. Because this week’s tee DIY will take that tee (via unicorn-back) to a serious femme’d out place.
Taking some inspo from our favorite Lolli bow back bikini bottoms (pictured above), in about 5 minutes, we added a fun girly bow to the back of this men’s tee. Read on for the step-by-step.
Tee (pictured: Pidgin Orange Tee)
Pencil (or chalk for a dark-colored tee)
Optional: ribbon and safety pin (if you plan on cinching the hem)
Step 2: On the BACK side of your tee, draw to horizontal lines, about 4″-6″ apart. The lines should stop at least a few inches away from the sides of the tee. Cut along the lines.
Step 3: You saved the neck of the, right? Cut about a 3″ piece of the ribbing from the neck scraps. Wrap it around the center of the strip of fabric that you created with the cuts above. Add a dab of glue to secure the ends of the ribbing together to create a circle.
Step 4: The sleeves. For the sleeves, we used a technique I like to call “Kapowski-ing” (aka- rolling the sleeves). For directions on how to create dolman sleeves, click here: DIY Dolman Sleeve Tee
Step 5: You could end here, adding a 90′s knot to the bottom of the tee, and call it a day. If you want a cinched waist, read on. Cut a small vertical slit at the side of the tee hem. Cut a piece of ribbon, at least long enough to wrap around your waist + 6″ or so. Longer if you want a longer tie. Attach a safety pin to the end of the ribbon, then work it through the hemline of the tee. Hint: similar to threading the lace back though your hoodie. Use the loose ends of the ribbon to cinch the tee at the bottom.
