Newport Beach Film Festival 2012 Action Sports Film Series
The Newport Beach Film Festival Action Sports Film Series showcases international films about athletes, filmmakers and pioneers of the action sports culture. It’s the largest action sports cinema event in the nation, taking place during from April 26 – May 3, 2012 in Orange County, CA, at locations like the Lido theater where legendary surf movies premiered over the years.
If you are in Southern California during the festival, treat yourself to discover the host of groundbreaking visions of the sports we love. Day At The Pool
A Day at the Pool is a documentary-style film that attempts to uncover the true origins of modern skateboarding. Interviews with Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, Jay Adams, Steve Olson, Dave Hackett, Duane Peters and the rest of the Dogtown Crew reveal that an anonymous local kid may have been largely responsible for the skateboarding revolution that lead to their success in the late 70s.

Minds In The Water
Five years in the making, MINDS IN THE WATER is the story of Dave Rastovich’s international journey to help protect dolphins and whales and their ocean environment. Billabong’s top free-surfer went from observer to activist when he embarked on a mission to help stop the worldwide commercial slaughter of dolphins and whales. “This whole journey started as a conversation between two friends a few years ago,” says Rasta. “Since then, it has evolved into an international movement with thousands of followers who are actively making a difference.”

Decade of Dominance
Every year the world’s best paddle boarders gather in Hawaii to contest the World Championship of Paddle boarding. To claim the world title the winner must cross one of the world’s most treacherous bodies of water, the 32 mile Ka’iwi channel, aptly named the ‘channel of bones’. Since 2002 Jamie Mitchell has won the world title his an incredible nine times.
