Suitable for Summer Style Post by Guest Blogger, Leah.

Although summer in California means warm sand and sunny skies, it doesn’t always guarantee the luxury of warm ocean water. So when I am planning on spending all day in the ocean I find that it’s a good idea to have something strong enough to keep me warm in the ocean whether I am snorkeling, surfing, or just floating out to sea, but also light enough to allow me to float, dive, and jump to my feet seamlessly. I love this wetsuit as it is not as restricting or nearly as hot as a full wetsuit. It’s perfect for quickly slipping into as you head out to the water. And as fall quickly approaches this suit will stick around through the warm fall days and help make the transition into winter water temperatures a little bit smoother.

This Just In: New Billabong Surf Capsule

billabong-surf-capsule-crop
Once again, the design team at Billabong has struck the perfect balance between traditional, “scrumptious baby seal” black neoprene, and a “maybe if I tie it super tight it won’t fall off” bikini. Introducing the Spring ’14 Billabong Surf Capsule Collection. The retro-inspired line features Billabong’s tech neoprene in bold color blocks, south of the boarder stripes, and a neon safari print mix. Combine the cheeky cuts with Summer-in-January weather*, and you’ll most-certainly be able to look past the 60 degree water temps towards long beach days ahead.

West Coastin’ | San Onofre A Series On Sand + Sun with Guest Blogger Leah.

leah
There is nothing better than a three day weekend, especially when it’s 80 degrees out every single day. I got out of the house during this short holiday and wandered down to San Onofre. We parked our little surf mobile right on the sand and spent the whole day surfing, sleeping, and eating. I wore my vintage shorts while I was surfing, swimming,  and rolling around in the sand. They are not only a sexy fit, but are also my favorite bright, but faded colors. They keep you warm in the water and make for a cute little getup on the sand. After a full day, I began packing up and wore the perfect basic coverup just as the wind came up. I love this simple, fun dress as it goes with any bikini underneath and has a v-neck with lace up strings that make it fun to run and twirl around in. It was a perfect day with the perfect pieces. When you are headed for sun and surf all you need is a coverup, bikini, and wetsuit shorts… and your board of course.

Surf Industry Image Awards -Billabong, RVCA & Ripcurl Win

Last night’s awards ceremony at the The Grove theater in Anaheim celebrated surfing’s best products, and the campaigns used to sell them. The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) holds this annual event where the surfing’s top players like Volcom CEO Richard Woolcott, RVCA’s Pat Tenore, Bob Hurley, and 750 others get together and measure their successes one beer at a time.

Here are the big winners in the Men’s Categories.

Environmental Product Of the Year WINNER: Recycled Boardshort Series by Billabong

This year Billabong took home a special trophy for their Recycler Series Boardshort. Single use plastics obviously threaten surfing’s playground, so its no surprise that Billabong wins the eco-award year after year. Billabong boasts that this boardshort has saved 40 million plastic bottles from ending up in a landfill.

But don’t worry, these boardshort don’t feel like your wearing a plastic bottle. Just watch Taj destroy these waves while he saves the environment here.

Wetsuit of the Year WINNER: FLASHBOMB by Rip Curl

Rip Curl dethroned the 3-time winning Xcel Drylock suit with their Flash-bomb technology. Rip Curl claim the Flash-Bomb is the world’s lightest, warmest, most flexible and fastest drying wetsuit on the market. So it’s no surprise we cant keep these on the shelves at SWELL.

Men’s Apparel Brand of the Year WINNER: RVCA

RVCA pulled a 3-peat, claiming the best Men’s Apparel brand for the third straight year. Their ongoing Artist Network program, RVCA sport line, and “Don’t Call it Cool” summer exhibition in Paris proved once again who is the most forward thinking company in the industry.
