Over the years, Isla Vista, California has been in the news for some pretty unfortunate stuff, but there is much more to this college town than the wild parties it is known for. As a UC Santa Barbara student, I can vouch for the intellect and kindness of all of the residents of Isla Vista, who can qualify as party animals, bookworms, talented athletes and artists, or all of the above. Send off summer with a cocktail that combines two of our favorite things: watermelon and sea salt (oh yeah, and tequila). Don’t be fooled by the unicorn tear-pink hue, this cocktail isn’t for lightweights or sugar saturated drink-lovers. It packs a well disguised, perfectly balanced punch…that can, coincidentally, be served punch-style in the melon from whence it came. And because it contains zero added sugar, it’s a recipe that cocktail aficionados, beach bod conscious imbibers and casual Sunday sippers can enjoy equally.

I’ve always been a sucker for classic cars, so I was thrilled with the opportunity to spend some time with a gorgeous Chrysler New Yorker. It seemed as though everyone walking through Cardiff were also keen on it; we had tourists and locals alike coming up to snap photos and admire the beautiful car. I also received some sweet compliments on my retro outfit, featuring SWELL’s mania top, Raga printed bell-bottom pants, BC buckle sandals, RAEN Fairbanks sunnies, and my mom’s vintage hat!

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to surf in the Malibu Boardriders Club 23rd Annual Call to the Wall surf contest, at the infamous Malibu Surfrider Beach. I have surfed in this event, a Coalition of Surfing Clubs contest for the past several years, representing my club: The Swamis Surfing Association. This year, I was thrilled to make the finals, but the real fun was had hanging out on the beach with some incredibly talented friends. (more…)
