Movember x SWELL -Share, Support, Like, and Win! Join SWELL in supporting mens' health & win some prizes while you're at it

Movember kicks off today with a global shave-off followed by a month of “mo” growing to spread prostate cancer awareness. SWELL and our mo-bros and sistas in the surf industry are letting it grow all month, and putting the “fun” in fundraising. SWELL has pledged to donate $1 for every moustache posted to our Facebook wall in an effort to maximize awareness through public displays of moustachery.

SWELL and Sanuk will reward the staches with the most likes, and other inspiring “mos”. Prizes include a pair of Sanuk Chills Sidewalk Surfers, SWELL gift-cards, and eternal glory. No mo? No problem. Swell includes a finger-stache tattoo in every November order so you can still throw on a mo and get that donation in your honor. We also threw in a 15% off discount code for an extra incentive to get involved.

Follow these steps to get your mo on:
1. Let it grow, or put on a faux-mo
2. Post your mo to facebook.com/swell and SWELL donates $1 in your honor
3. Get your friends to “like” your mo-photo once it is re-posted in the Movember album
5. Win tons of prizes including the Sanuk Chills
6. Want to do more? Donate directly at Swell’s Movember Headquarters

The Fall 2011 Swell Catalog Is Here!

Just In…the Special Edition SWELL X Surfing Heritage Catalog

catalog-mens

It’s here, the SWELL 2011 Fall Catalog! In with the old, and the new. In an effort to support surfing’s rich history, SWELL has collaborated with the Surfing Heritage Foundation to create this special edition catalog, featuring historical photos from pioneer waterman and surf photographer Tom Blake. Credited with helping to create the surf lifestyle we all embrace today, this collection of 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940′s photos from Tom Blake represent surfing’s transformation into the mainstream culture, as well as a resurrection of surfing’s past. From the hardwood boards of the 1920’s, to the first hollow board in 1932, to the first ‘production’ surfboard, and through the invention of the fin in 1935, the photos in this book chronicle a key period in the evolution of surfing. With a Graflex camera he bought from the ‘Father of Modern surfing,’ Duke Kahanamoku, and the creation of the first water housing, Tom was able to both capture and positively impact board riding and the lifestyle that surrounds it.

Help continue the understanding, representation, and enjoyment of the sport and its lifestyle by supporting the Surfing Heritage Foundation. The non-profit organization is dedicated to preserving, presenting and promoting surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations. Join a community of people who share a common passion for the spirit, soul and culture of surfing. Support the Foundation (and get a bag of freebies, including a SWELL gift card)! Nike Lights Up Seaside Reef for a Night Surfing Session

Cardiff, CA – July 26, 2011 – As an extension of their Chosen campaign and a warm up for the upcoming US Open, Nike staged a night time surf session at Seaside Reef. Before arriving I pictured a couple of spotlights and a maybe loud commentator, but instead I ended up stumbling into what felt like a Poison video. Smoke machines belted off plumes of smoke, a live band and DJ played for the crowd, and a giant crane lit up the surf with a massive sun-like spotlight. They even had several underwater lights illuminating the surf from beneath. It was far from any thing I had expected.

Unfortunately I missed the live performance by the Wavves (the main reason for my post-work excursion from San Clemente), but the event was definitely a spectacle to check out. With the resources used for this random Tuesday night exhibition, I’m sure Nike’s got something awesome up their sleeve for the US Open in Huntington scheduled for July 30 – Aug 7.

Product Showcase: Catch Surf Original 54 Beater

We caught up with with our homies over at Catch Surf the other day to peep the factory and rap over the busy din of the machinery about one of the most prominent soup slayers in their line, the Original 54 Beater. We snapped a few behind the scenes photos and got some footage of Catch Surf Prez George educating Swell’s very own Bill “Ask a Dude” Laity on the finer points of radness concerning said Beater. Enjoy kiddies. We sure did
