Autumn is a confusing time for surfers. I mean, in summer you trunk it, in winter you’ve got your fullsuit/ steamer situation, and of course they’re called spring suits for a reason. Does that mean in fall, you just put on your spring suit, and call it a fall suit? This is one of life’s great mysteries. While the temperatures seem to allow for this, fall suit just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. So maybe, we can think of a different name… lets go with “transitional suit.” Transitional wetsuits can come in different shapes and thicknesses, but usually involve 2mm neoprene, instead of a fullsuit’s typical 3/2, or a steamer’s 4/3 (sometimes 5/4/3… for extra frigid winters.. yikes). My favorite way to wear 2mm neoprene is in the form of separates! For example, Billabong Women’s cropped jacket paired with their wetsuit leggings makes for a fun and unique wetsuit “outfit.” These pieces have been keeping me nice and warm, but not too hot, while the water is starting to cool down.
Succulents may just be the trendiest low-maintenance gardening item of all time. The cute little ones that look like flowers are everywhere these days, and absolutely anyone can take care of ‘em. Sometimes though, they aren’t exactly pint size Pinterest pieces… for example, the California Coastal Agave can reach up to an impressive 5 meters in height! Agave isn’t just for tequila, soothing sun burns, or sweetening your coffee… It also makes for a super rad background in pictures. I’m just hanging, showing off the essential gear – Kevin Connelly watermelon surfboard; Billabong Womens wetsuit… But lets be real, this crazy cool cactus steals the show.
Over the years, Isla Vista, California has been in the news for some pretty unfortunate stuff, but there is much more to this college town than the wild parties it is known for. As a UC Santa Barbara student, I can vouch for the intellect and kindness of all of the residents of Isla Vista, who can qualify as party animals, bookworms, talented athletes and artists, or all of the above.
