Long Live Summer

LeahHB_087
As summer begins to come to an end, I try to get in as much time at the beach as possible. Long summer days should always end with a skateboard down the boardwalk as the sun sets to pink and orange hues. For these last few summer moments it’s fun to pick out an outfit that will work all day. It has to be perfect for rolling around in the sand but also ready for skating until the stars come out. A bikini, sunnies, shorts, and some high socks make you feel like the ultimate tomboy, ready for some final summer adventures. Summer ending doesn’t mean the heat is leaving us too, so investing in a good pair of shorts and cute bikini will only do you good. Shorts are perfect for transitioning into fall and there is always a tropical beach vacation beckoning you and your best bikinis no matter where you may be. So say goodbye to summer in style, but don’t say goodbye to summer style!

Skating Riverbeds with Mowgli

mowgli surf

Mowgli Surf Team riders Christian Franzen, Noah Foskett, and Shea Porter hit up the Santa Ana Riverbed in Fountain Valley. They swear there’s no better place to work on your street surfing then those high concrete banks. Photographer Jessica Stopnik was there to capture some shots.

Here’s some tips the Mowgli groms provided for you aspiring river-rats.

1. Tricks to practice: wall-rides, tail-slides, gap jumping
2. Wear gloves to throw super stylish laybacks w/o shredding your palms
3. When bombing a bank make sure you are ready to commit. There’s nothing worse then breaking your arm because you bailed.
4. Wash roadrash thoroughly, You’re pretty much shredding in a toilet
5. Concrete banks are like big waves. Style counts!
6. Do not go riverbeds when its raining unless you want to die.

Go Skateboarding Day 2012

On June 21 skateboarders around the globe will celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding. OK, most skateboarders do this every day of their lives, but this is just one more reason to bail your Job, tv, computer and go skateboarding!

Ya, we know it follows International Surfing Day, but why not throw a back-to-back blitzkrieg of boarding right when school gets out. Skaters hit the pavement in over 200 cities worldwide and Cops don’t stand a chance at stopping us.

Here’s footage from last year’s event in San Diego.

Our favorite gathering goes down in Mission Beach, Ca where the Sector Nine boys throw an annual “Poker Run.” Hundreds of Nine-Ballers of all ages race down the boardwalk collecting poker cards from various checkpoints. The best hands of 5-card-stud take home free skates and sweaty wads of cash. If your in the area, come to the South Mission Jetty between 12-2pm. Only the first 100 skaters will get to play, but anyone can join the skate parade.
