Happy Thanksgiving to you all! May you have a day filled with fun, gratitude, relaxation, and…food. Great food. Enjoy every single bite. I tend to have Thanksgiving be a splurge day, and I eat pretty much anything and everything that’s up for grabs, figure out a way to have stuffing in each bite, and wake up wishing I could just eat the pecan pie for breakfast. I must confess that I also totally kick my butt in the gym the day before, and go on a run the morning of my beloved feast. It makes smothering every single bite that I can in gravy, just that more enjoyable.

Life and fitness is all about balance, and finding yours. So give thanks for good health, family, friends, holidays…and pecan pie.

Your body is rad.

In fact every single human body is more than rad. It’s remarkable, and capable of soooooo many incredible things. Case in point: Freedivers that can hold their breath for 5 minutes, marathon runners, rock climbers, powerlifters, hip hop dancers, Kobayashi, and of course, surfers. But, even non-pro or extreme athletes (ordinary joe’s like myself) are cable of amazing things. Another case in point: Beating personal bests in a timed mile, hiking a 14’er, completing a triathlon, or rehabbing from a life altering injury to being better than before.

You know those days where you have a lot on your plate but all you desire is getting in the water for a surf? But low and behold you show up and it’s flat and blown to smithereens. Suddenly your mind flashes back to your to-do list and excuses start flowing.  You just have to go for it though.

There has hardly been a time when I went surfing in less than ideal conditions and felt worse than before I went. No matter how tired you are or how many excuses you have, just getting in the water will recharge you and make you happy you went after all. Regardless of conditions, the ocean has a way of supporting us, so do what you gotta do, but don’t forget to get wet somewhere along the way.
