I am 99.9997% sure that the biggest obstacle in health and fitness, is us. Me, you, all our excuses, business, and procrastination. We all have it and it’s a daily fight. Then, something that seems to get in the way is thinking that staring at a bunch of fitness inspiration pics, and reading a bunch of fitness posts will somehow magically get you healthier and in better shape. Well, all of that inspiration and motivational material is useless (this column included) if you don’t make that final decision to finally get up, break a sweat, and move. (more…)
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! May you have a day filled with fun, gratitude, relaxation, and…food. Great food. Enjoy every single bite. I tend to have Thanksgiving be a splurge day, and I eat pretty much anything and everything that’s up for grabs, figure out a way to have stuffing in each bite, and wake up wishing I could just eat the pecan pie for breakfast. I must confess that I also totally kick my butt in the gym the day before, and go on a run the morning of my beloved feast. It makes smothering every single bite that I can in gravy, just that more enjoyable.
Life and fitness is all about balance, and finding yours. So give thanks for good health, family, friends, holidays…and pecan pie.
We have checklists and to-do lists for shopping, work, life, the home, homework, and school. So, why not add a daily checklist to the mix concerning something that’s just a weeeeee bit important, like your health. (more…)
In fact every single human body is more than rad. It’s remarkable, and capable of soooooo many incredible things. Case in point: Freedivers that can hold their breath for 5 minutes, marathon runners, rock climbers, powerlifters, hip hop dancers, Kobayashi, and of course, surfers. But, even non-pro or extreme athletes (ordinary joe’s like myself) are cable of amazing things. Another case in point: Beating personal bests in a timed mile, hiking a 14’er, completing a triathlon, or rehabbing from a life altering injury to being better than before.
