Ever add coconut milk to your coffee, only to end your morning with a final swig of chalky white powder. You could only hope that the chalky substance in boxed coconut milk is some form of macerated coco. But flip the box over and read the ingredients. Chances are, the list extends far beyond coconut and water. Instead of ditching coconut milk all together, take 2 minutes (maybe 7 if starting from a whole coconut) and whip up some of the fresh stuff. You’ll end up with a creamier milk (no chalk), sans additives, stabilizers and whatever else was on that boxed variety ingredient list. In search of the ultimate sweet treats, we turned to the authority on all things sugary, Lolli Swimwear’s Vy, to dish on the very best desserts Southern California has to offer. The designer of bow bikini bottoms, one-pieces with heart cut-outs and rainbow sorbet-colored swimmies certainly knows her stuff when it comes to all things sweet. Forth of July is just about here and I’m sure many of you will celebrate with a 4th of July BBQ or two. One of my fav things to bring to group events or barbeques is something that may sound kinda weird at first…Broccoli Slaw. Yes, I’m talking about cole slaw made with (gasp) broccoli! Now let me tell you, this not your grandma’s coleslaw, drenched in nasty mayo and who knows what! This slaw is much healthier and it’s so yummy that it doesn’t even taste like broccoli. Added bonus: This coleslaw is super quick to prepare and you can easily find all of the ingredients at most supermarkets.
