Ever add coconut milk to your coffee, only to end your morning with a final swig of chalky white powder. You could only hope that the chalky substance in boxed coconut milk is some form of macerated coco. But flip the box over and read the ingredients. Chances are, the list extends far beyond coconut and water. Instead of ditching coconut milk all together, take 2 minutes (maybe 7 if starting from a whole coconut) and whip up some of the fresh stuff. You’ll end up with a creamier milk (no chalk), sans additives, stabilizers and whatever else was on that boxed variety ingredient list. We’d call this one a “skinny” pina colada, but that might read girly, which this cocktail is most-certainly not. With zero added sugar and a heavy hand of rum, this libation resembles a “perfect” margarita (tequila, lime, triple sec). This 3-ingrediant, under-diluted beverage is a tropical take on the classic.

Coconut oil: aka the new lotion, eye makeup remover, sunscreen, deep conditioner, lip balm, bug repellant, deep conditioning treatment…and even deodorant. But if you’ve ever attempted to travel with a jar of the magical oil, you may have found that the 76 degree melting point can cause quite an oily mess if left in a hot car or traveling to a tropical destination (which we’ll assume is the type of location you generally travel to).
