Spring 2009’s Brightest Trends

Not every trend is created equal. Some fade with the seasons, and some have us wondering “what was I thinking?!” Others, regardless of their popularity, if containing the right amount of edge and figure-friendly lines, can last over the years.  We scavenged through this coming spring’s biggest trends and hand picked the best of the best. They’re the trends that almost anyone can rock; have distinct creative flair mixed with classic elements; and won’t have you looking back regretfully years later!

SUN DANCE PRINTS

Feathers, fringe, and the untamed west: the staples of summer music festival kits, southwestern fairs, and Mojave nights combine to create a free-spirited, throwback look that will flood the scene this spring.

Our favorite native prints (pictured above from left):

PAINTED SILK

It’s the combination of ultra feminine, saucy silk with awesomely draped silhouettes, and artsy brush strokes that give painted silk dresses an edge over other hot trends this season. No matter the length, there’s always an innate flirty allure to a silk dress that puts it at the top of our list. This spring, the silk dress features goddess-like charm with gathered waists, flowy skirts, and a hint of skin.

MAXI IMPACT

Okay, so it’s no big surprise that the floor-sweeping dress that has an ethereal silhouette (yet feels more comfortable than a velour sweatsuit) is flooding the scene. Its sultry allure and ability to lengthen the body—complimenting almost every imaginable figure—makes this piece a trend that won’t fade with the season. The figure-flattering shape and subtle sex-appeal creates a look guys can’t ignore. Our favorite maxi dresses highlight the shoulders with bandeau or thin straps, giving balance to the elongated silhouette of the skirt. For the spring and summer, we love the uncluttered pairing of a maxi dress and a simple solid bangle, long, tin necklace, or over sized earrings.

THE BOYFRIEND TANK

If the boyfriend tank was a Spice Girl, it’d for sure be Sporty Spice. With an enticing scoop neck and oversized fit, the boyfriend-style tank has “playful” and “slightly daring” written all over it. Take it from sporty to bubbly with a high-waisted skirt or colored skinny jeans. It will definitely be popping up at the beach with a subtle glimpse of a bikini top peeking out. As far as trends go, there really isn’t a wrong way to rock this one.

Our favorite boyfriend tanks (pictured above from left):
Billabong Supa Dupa Thermo Color Tank paired with Billabong Miranda Jeans and Insight Galactic Forest Triangle
Insight Cookin’ Class Tank worn with O’Neill Streams Skirt and Reef Wispy Sandal
Billabong Hartwell Tank paired with Billabong Sugar Skirt
