HURLEY’S TOMBOY DRESS TURNS IT UP

As everyone knows, the best part of any major awards shows is seeing what the celebrities are wearing. And this year’s 2008 MTV Video Music Awards was especially stunning, as we saw supermodel Bar Refaeli rock Hurley’s Tomboy Singlet Maxi dress. Later did we learn that the frock was actually made specifically for her. From the moment we saw it we knew the Tomboy was pretty amazing. And Swell ended up as one of the select few retailers able to offer it in limited supply. Simple, chic and refined, the floor-length number is as comfortable to wear as your favorite t-shirt, but is sultry and versatile. Should you want to accessorize with jewelry, scarves, a bag or some type of jacket, the dress easily flatters all body types. And in a recent photo shoot we assembled three great ways to wear it–proving you hardly need a figure like Bar’s to pull it off.

We were also able to get the full lowdown on the dress’ design and inspiration from Hurley’s Jenna Woodhull, who explained that what really sets the Tomboy apart is its effortless sex appeal.

Designer’s Name:  John Cherpas and Catherine Redmond
Stylist’s Name: Deda Coben
Was the dress made specifically for the VMA’s, or was it Bar’s and her stylist’s selection? Yes, the dress was made specifically for Bar for the VMA’s.  We took our favorite Tomboy tank from in-line and turned it in to a red carpet dress!
Was Bar the muse all along? Absolutely! Bar has a very effortless sex appeal and is a bit of a tomboy.  She is a t-shirt, jeans type of girl, so there was nothing more fitting than dressing her in a beautiful gown with the comfort of her favorite tee!
Describe the cut and fit: This is a form fitting maxi dress made from a tri-blend jersey.  We made it very long and tight, and it shows off the body in all the right places!!
How else would you wear it? Any other suggested accessories? The great thing about the Tomboy is that you can dress it up or down!  Bar styled it with statement jewelry from Badgley Mischka, shoe boots from Fendi, clutch by Lambertson Truex, and her own leather jacket. You can throw this on after a day at the beach with a pair of flip-flops, or dress it up and be ready for a night out!
Was the dress originally a one-of-a-kind or is it an integral piece of your fall line?
Bar loves our “Tomboy Tee” collection from in-line, which consists of extremely soft and sexy fitting tees and tanks. We took our singlet tank as a starting point and created the dress from there. The dress was one of a kind, but we have had so many inquiries, that we have decided to produce a limited edition, recreation for select retailers–Swell being one of them!!!
