SWELL SURFBOARD DEMO DAY Sept. 16, 2010. Try Before You Buy

September 2nd, 2010 | By | 1,545 Comments

The groms are back in school, which means its time to take back the line-up. So, while the rest of the socal surf world sits and watches the now top 30 WCT surfers at lower trestles, run down the beach to San Clemente State Park and test out the latest models from the best sharpers in the world.

SWELL.com is organizing this epic collective for any and all to sample. Feel free to just come hang out and try to snag some swag from the boys repping brands ranging from niche to gnarly.

Just another way that SWELL shows love to all who surf our site.
SWELL demo day 2010
Need we remind you that the WCT event will be running less than a mile away, so you never know what team riders may join the fun…

The who’s who:

RUSTY: The Rusty collective will be there waving the Rusty flag with some bad ass shred sleds to try out.

DHD: The DHD blokes will bring the whole board rack/etc with a plethora of boards to sample. Also Kirra’s very own Darren Handley the head honcho of “Darren Handley Designs” will be hanging out at the event. He shapes boards for both the Men’s and Women’s 2008, 2009 world champs Mick Fanning & Steph Gilmore. CHeck them out here: http://www.basesurfboards.com/brand/show/id/5

FIREWIRE: Chuy Reyna, frothing former California Pro surfer who is currently the marketing director at Firewire is bringing a truck load of boards (around 25). Everything from yer standard high performance short-board to yer retro style fish will be available to try out on the Firewire rack.

PLACEBO: Rick Hazard & Brad Kingsley (aka “BK”), the dudes that run the show at Placebo are bringing some cool hybrid boards to sample.

LOST: Trevor Traut (aka “Traut”) is bringing a bunch of boards to try out. There’ll be Rockets, there’ll be Scorchers, there’ll be sub-scorchers. So pretty much everything thing that absolutely shreds a San Clemente beachbreak to pieces

CATCH SURF: These things are bad ass! They’re super fun and you can flip any lifeguard off if he gives you shit for being within a blackball zone. The boys at Catch Surf are bringing a stack of these different models to try out (ones with fins & ones without). High tide peaks around 4pm that day, so expect a great demo when the lip hits the sand. Hopefull Bill “Beaker” Bryan will show off a bit.

INFINITY: The Boehne Bros are bringing their magic quiver of complete madness for all to try out. It’ll be an amazing quiver… I assure you.

T. PATTERSON: You’ll easily be able to spot Scotty & the T. Patt crew in the EZ up logo’d tent with a rack of their wide range shapes of ultimate shred sticks. Just look for the T. Patt tent and grab a stick

THALIA: Nick and the Thalia family will be there representing with some bomb ass retro boards to try out in the combers

CHEMISTRY: Will Smith (well known actor who played the character “J” in the movie Men & Black) & tip top shaper Jason Bennett will be there with their complete and utmost bombass quiver of boards that will make u feel like a complete ripper even if you aren’t.

FACTORY @ BASHAM’S: Maurice & the shaper’s alley gang will be there with their newly designed hybrid models to try out, like the Quad-a-lupe, and What the Fish!

DAKINE: The Dakine crew is gonna be there with all of their latest gear that you get to check out. From ultimate world travel bags, to the thinnest comp leash known to man. You might even go home with a couple.

BILLABONG: Wetsuits! Bong will show to give a special look at their latest and raddest wetsuits!

QUIKSILVER: Wetsuits! Quik will be there with suit to suit any water temp!

STRETCH: The Stretch guys will be heading out with an assortment of their signature boards for frolicking past the foamballs

Demo day is gonna be one of those days that sticks in yer mind forever. An experience that gives the kind of industry insight that will change your surfing forever (seriously you will learn tons about progressive equipment based on sound surfing philosophies).

Stussy: It’s All That.

NEW AT SWELL: STUSSY

g00029ss

Sup b? Stussy, the brand we all rocked with a Jansport in the 80’s, is back in action. And if you’re thinking about a slightly grunged, acid wash look with some cropped lengths and neon hits in the mix, you wouldn’t be THAT far off. The proverbial Stussy apple doesn’t fall far front the tree. Rolled-up tee sleeves, 80’s tribal prints, bod-hugging skirts, and Crosby-esque sweaters all make an appearance in the updated nostalgia line. Needless to say, it’s all that and a bag of chips.

Product Showcase: Placebo Rocket

August 30th, 2010 | By | 8,251 Comments

All those set waves we’d been giving away sessions past have finally paid off in pleasing the surf gods to the point of them hooking us up with golden tickets granting us access to the mysterious and strangely wonderful kingdom-cum-factory of the ever enigmatic PLACEBOMAN. Stoked out of our gourds we were as the earmuffs and paper bags were placed upon our domes for the limo ride over. When the darkness and silence at last lifted, light and sound having returned to us, there before us stood a one Mr. Rick Hazard–PLACEBOMAN’s stalwart right hand and keeper of the keys to the kingdom. He had with him, held aloft in his mighty hands, a weapon so fierce that at its mere mention a heaving 6-foot A-frame would collapse upon itself and crumble into a giant wall of mushburger. What Excalibur be this ye ask?! Behold the Placebo Rocket.

What Excalibur did for dragons, this thing does for ankle to chest high waves.
