Follow Miss Reef around the storied tip of the Baja Peninsula – where she frolicks in waters of cabo, wanders through Mexico’s famed deserts, and the sparkling expanse of the Pacific Ocean all converge into a stunning back-drop as exotic as Miss Reef herself.

In our ongoing series spotlighting the faces behind core companies who practice what they preach, we caught up with JJ Thomas of YEA.NICE. He Co-founded it in 2010 after an accomplished snowboard career that included an Olympic bronze medal in the 2002 snowboard halfpipe, an X-Games gold medalist, and 2010 Dew Tour Champion. He took his battle-tested beanie knowledge to build a brand, and it we’re stoked he shared it with SWELL.
What was the inspiration for focusing solely on building a beanie brand?
JJ:Beanies speak to Josh’s (co-founder) and I’s roots after bearing some of the harshest winter conditions so we understand quality from a functional standpoint as well. We engineered a new in-store beanie display to give our customers a unique experience when selecting trying on our beanies at retail, we also created Beanies4Life, a one for one program that helps the homeless community through our beanies, so everything we’re accomplishing comes back to beanies which is why we made that choice to be a beanie focused brand. The weeks and days leading up to Thanksgiving are by far some of my favorite moments of the year. Excitement is in the air as you make arrangements for all the loved ones visiting. You try to pack your weekends in with every last fall adventure you can, because as soon as December comes around you’ll switch into the winter gear and focus on the holiday season. I’m not going to complain about the summer weather that just won’t kick it here in Laguna, but I do have a pile of cold weather styles just waiting to be loved. If you can’t wear leggings and a fur coat where you are, then take a drive and find a place you can – or at least that’s what I did! Big Bear is so beautiful this time of year with the changing leaves and bitter cold wind that sweeps through the giant pine trees. I was so giddy that I could finally wrap myself in a fur coat and go for a walk in the crisp morning air. For walks along wet roads, under a canopy of changing leaves, and cool wind on your face; the best outfit to wear is a warm coat, cozy leggings, and fuzzy boots. There is no better way to get excited for the Holiday season!
