Growing up, I always admired my mom’s fun collections of clothing from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. She told me she was holding onto all the items because the trends would roll back around, and I could be retro-chic. Sure enough, all of the vintage pieces fit into modern day styles. Starting in high school, I would wear her weird/cool stuff everywhere, and since her name is Janet, we call them Jan-Me-Downs! My favorite Jan-Me-Down is a black concho hat from the late 1980s. The positive of using a mason jar as a mug: you can add a lid and boom, to-go cup. The negative: zero molten hot liquid to metacarpal protection. The solution: no, it’s not going out and buying a gadget to add a handle to your jar (put your money towards something better, say, a new pair of winter boots). Our solution: a fresh pair of socks. Rather, a single sock. Start with a clean one. Maybe one who has lost its partner. Better yet, a fresh pair. Best yet, this palm tree pair from Stance. Clip off the bottom of the sock, or fold the excess under for a less permanent solution.
