Product Review: iPhone Watershot

watershot

The advent of the Watershot iPhone housing brings the DIY craze into surfing without having to spring for a Gopro. The result delivers magazine quality surf photos to post on instagram quicker than it takes to peel off your wetsuit.

The SWELL crew tested the iPhone housing in the the local Orange County beachbreaks to check the learning curve on a Watershot novice.

1st Session: San Clemente

watershotfirst
Learning Curve:
-Beachbreaks are tricky to get closeups with shifty peaks and no zoom
-An object in the foreground gives good perspective and artsy touch
-USE THE LANYARD. Watershot doesn’t float, and swimming with 1 hand is tough

2nd Session: Salt Creek

Learning Curve:
-You can never be too close, objects are smaller than appear
-Turn off flash and other slow shutter settings to get rapid fire sequences
-Stabilize Watershot evenly with both hands for realistic POV
