This past weekend rocked in Encinitas with a stop at the La Paloma Theater by Timmy Curran and White Buffalo (a supporter of TOMS shoes). Ventura surf pro Timmy Curran (sponsors include: Hurley, Vestal, Adio, Channel Islands Surfboards, Hoven and Famous Surf Wax) was showcasing his musical talents at La Paloma on Saturday night. He gave the crowd a taste of some new music while keeping them satisfied with favorites, including “Blue Eyes” and “Slow.” Curran’s vocals/guitar was accompanied by his almost usual crew, including Andy “The One Man Band” Smith and Jesse Carmichael on Drums. Special appearances included Cardiff-By-The-Sea local Rob Machado, (sponsors include: Hurley, Reef, Dragon, Channel Islands, Nixon, Boost Mobile, Sambazon, Creature of Leisure and Bubble Gum Surf Wax), for a couple of songs on guitar. The crowd was having such a great time; they cheered Timmy back on stage for a solo encore to end his set. The fun was only beginning though, as White Buffalo took the stage after Timmy’s departure and rocked the house. For those who have never been to a White Buffalo show, you should add this one to your must-see list. I’ve seen Buffalo a few times live and they put on a phenomenal show each time. Lead singer/guitarist Jake Smith never disappoints with his powerful voice and lyrics; Matt Lynot tears it up on the drums; and Tommy Andrews completes the trio on the bass. Buffalo played the crowd right out of their seats and got them dancing in the aisles. It was a fantastic show that ended sweetly with a solo encore by Jake Smith singing “Wrong” (“Wrong” was featured in the 1999 surf movie Shelter). Next stop on the Timmy Curran / White Buffalo tour is at the OC Tavern in San Clemente on November 20th. Make sure you check it out. In the meantime, take a listen at Timmy’s and White Buffalo’s Myspace music pages.Thank you for visiting the Swell blog.
