Mom Was Right About Sunscreen (Okay, and maybe some other stuff too)

Dear 16 year old me,
Don’t worry too much about the outfit you are going to wear; you’ll look back and say “How awful! How did I EVER wear that!” Try and have as much fun as you can because, as much as it sucks to admit, mom was right about being an adult. And she was right about wearing sunscreen as well. And hey! Just because it says SPF 4 doesn’t mean it counts as protection!

Stock up on sunscreen at SWELL

For more information on melanoma and the efforts of the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund go to www.dcmf.ca. Share your story.

Read more below the break…
Melanoma is an extremely dangerous type of skin cancer. It is the leading cause of death from a skin disease. Not only can you get Melanoma in your skin but you can also get melanoma of the eye. The largest issue about detecting Melanoma is just that: Detecting it. Most people diagnose with malignant melanoma have less than a 10% chance of living longer than 5 years. The best thing to do is check yourself out! In the shower is probably the best place or in front of a mirror.

But it doesn’t have to be completely depressing! Start changing things in your life now to reduce your chances of getting melanoma. Always wear an SPF 30+ everyday even in the winter time. Pay extra attention to when you are out surfing or doing other activities in the sun!

And THANKFULLY SWELL has some stylish ways to keep you safe!
