The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) announced yesterday that Capt. Jack and the O’Neill crew have been nominated for five Image Awards, including Men’s Boardshort of the Year for the Lopez Freak, their “In It For Life” campaign for Men’s Marketing Campaign of the Year, and Men’s Apparel of the Year. While most consumers are probably unfamiliar with the prestige an Image Award can bring, to manufacturers it’s the end-all-be-all of accolades and recognition as it identifies the surf industry’s most influential companies. In other words, it’s a big effing deal.
