Back to Pack | Hiking Essentials A series on finding adventure, stoke, and a killer workout in the Great Outdoors by Johnie Gall

It’s not often I take style cues from Dora the Explorer, but the girl knew the value of a good backpack. I have a great big 60-liter one for overnight backpacking trips, a tiny little bag for mountain biking, and a waterproof dry bag for sailing.

So what was I missing? A good ol’ normal backpack. I haven’t had a regular-sized bag since I was slinging textbooks and locker combinations! (more…)

Evening Glass Off

noseriding
Last week, I stepped out to the home break for a twilight slide after a long day of classes, savoring the crisp autumn air. My rigorous school schedule sometimes doesn’t allow me to paddle out until the sun is wavering on the horizon line, and even when I’m exhausted, I find that some evening noseriding is the perfect way to end my day. Nothing can beat that moment when the wind dies down, and all becomes still except for the smooth rhythm of the sea.

West Coastin’ | Big Sur A Series On Sand + Sun with Guest Blogger Leah.

big-sur6
I can’t really complain about living in Southern California, but sometimes I do wish we were able to see the brilliant fall colors this season showcases. I decided a trip up north would take me to these falls colors and also give me an adventure fix.  So this past weekend I ventured up the coast headed north. With stops in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Cambria we made our way up the narrow roads to Big Sur! We decided to camp – which was chilly but so much fun. Once we pitched our tent we went out to explore what this amazing coastline has to offer. We stopped at McWay Falls, one of my favorite places to visit here and cruised all along the roads stopping in remote places that had the most spectacular views. One thing about going north is it is a little colder than I’m used to, so having some comfy jackets was a must.  Boyfriend jeans are also a perfect camping staple as they slip on easily and make a comfortable and stylish way to keep warm. Here are some snapshots from my adventures and the clothing essentials for a camping trip in Big Sur!
