Meet Your Maker | Pacific & Driftwood Designer and CEO Christian Cox Takes Swimwear "Beyond The Beach"


SWELL: Tell us a little about Pacific & Driftwood….what sparked you to start creating swimwear?

Christian Cox (CC): I was working as the Associate Designer for a luxury womenswear (RTW) brand when the thought crossed my mind to start my own swimwear co. I had gone on Christmas vacation to the Caribbean and before heading out of town I was trying to find a new bikini. I didn’t really love anything I was finding and wanted something with a little more edge, something fresh, and something no one else would be wearing. So I came up with my own design, and then cut and sewed it in my bedroom.

SWELL: We heard it all started in a tiger painted ice cream truck! Can you elaborate a little more on how Issa De Mar came about? Is the truck still open on the North Shore?
