This week’s open road adventure took me to a secluded beach in Laguna. There is nothing better than a little fall weather to provide crisp air, warm sun, and gorgeous, empty beaches. As much fun as summer is I prefer the quietness that comes with the cooler weather. As the vacationers have gone home and school and work take priority in our daily schedules, it is always good to make time to get down to the beach.

It’s boho or bust this season. We’re wrapping up our year-round essentials with lightweight layers in statement prints. Sweater season, here we come. Swap out warm summer tones for the new neutrals: taupe, grey and shades of rose. Then finish it off with go-everywhere ankle boots.

Growing up, I always admired my mom’s fun collections of clothing from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. She told me she was holding onto all the items because the trends would roll back around, and I could be retro-chic. Sure enough, all of the vintage pieces fit into modern day styles. Starting in high school, I would wear her weird/cool stuff everywhere, and since her name is Janet, we call them Jan-Me-Downs! My favorite Jan-Me-Down is a black concho hat from the late 1980s.
