The weeks and days leading up to Thanksgiving are by far some of my favorite moments of the year. Excitement is in the air as you make arrangements for all the loved ones visiting. You try to pack your weekends in with every last fall adventure you can, because as soon as December comes around you’ll switch into the winter gear and focus on the holiday season. I’m not going to complain about the summer weather that just won’t kick it here in Laguna, but I do have a pile of cold weather styles just waiting to be loved. If you can’t wear leggings and a fur coat where you are, then take a drive and find a place you can – or at least that’s what I did! Big Bear is so beautiful this time of year with the changing leaves and bitter cold wind that sweeps through the giant pine trees. I was so giddy that I could finally wrap myself in a fur coat and go for a walk in the crisp morning air. For walks along wet roads, under a canopy of changing leaves, and cool wind on your face; the best outfit to wear is a warm coat, cozy leggings, and fuzzy boots. There is no better way to get excited for the Holiday season!

Autumn is a confusing time for surfers. I mean, in summer you trunk it, in winter you’ve got your fullsuit/ steamer situation, and of course they’re called spring suits for a reason. Does that mean in fall, you just put on your spring suit, and call it a fall suit? This is one of life’s great mysteries. While the temperatures seem to allow for this, fall suit just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. So maybe, we can think of a different name… lets go with “transitional suit.” Transitional wetsuits can come in different shapes and thicknesses, but usually involve 2mm neoprene, instead of a fullsuit’s typical 3/2, or a steamer’s 4/3 (sometimes 5/4/3… for extra frigid winters.. yikes). My favorite way to wear 2mm neoprene is in the form of separates! For example, Billabong Women’s cropped jacket paired with their wetsuit leggings makes for a fun and unique wetsuit “outfit.” These pieces have been keeping me nice and warm, but not too hot, while the water is starting to cool down.
“Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase.” Noted, Mr. Joseph Pilates. But motivation is a different beast. One that can be coerced by a fresh pair of stretchies from time to time. So buy that new workout ensemble you’ve been eying. It’ll give you one less excuse to skip on fitness. Think of it as an investment in your health. You deserve it!
