I’m sitting in a cafe in Lajas, Puerto Rico, chewing on a chunk of fried white cheese, a warm breeze skipping across the table, the salt on my body so thick it feels like a second skin. We’re the only ones who speak English, so when laughter erupts from the other end of the restaurant, we can only speculate—but it’s that content type of musing that comes from being in a new place that simultaneously feels so familiar. We’re tired, beaten by the sun, scabs forming on our scrapes, camera memory cards begging for reprieve, smiles unfailing, $8 tickets for a night boat ride through the bay tucked under our plates. So this is Puerto Rico—and now all I can do is wonder how I’m going to convince myself get on that return flight in a few days. (more…)
There’s nothing like spending the holiday season in Hawaii. The streets are filled with lights, wreaths, and lots of palm trees. It’s sunny with not a cloud in the sky and if you’re lucky you’ll run into the Hawaiian Santa Claus walking around in flip flops and a Hawaiian print Santa suit. While doing a little Christmas shopping in town I wore this beautiful Billabong set. The red colors reminded me of Christmas and made me wanna do a little Christmas dance. (more…)
To California surfers, winter means northwest swells and less-crowded lineups! Of course, even in the land of sunshine, the temperatures drop… sometimes even below 70 degrees. Frightening, I know.
Fortunately, a steaming cup of joe, a cozy pair of UGG boots and a beanie, plus the perfect surf check jacket can protect you from the horrors of the slightly below average weather. Just in case perfect waves aren’t enough motivation to get you out of bed and to the beach in the mornings.
