Rip Curl’s New Flash Bomb Wetsuits Now Available at SWELL

Dave from Rip Curl stopped by to tell us about the innovative material used throughout their new Flash Bomb series of wetsuits. Exclusive to Rip Curl, this super soft lining dries much quicker than traditional neoprene so your suit will always be dry for your next session. You can find this special material throughout the Flash Bomb Series available at SWELL in a 3/2 suit, a 4/3 suit and a number of accessories. Check out Dave’s run down of the new suits in the video below. He gives the full on sham-wow style demonstration of this new material in action.

Suits generally dry in +/- 15 minutes…much quicker than that shabby piece of neoprene you’ve got in the back of your truck.

Follow The Light 2011 Surf Photography Awards -Tonight in Huntington Beach

Swell proudly sponsors another talented class of up-and-coming surf photographers for this year’s Follow The Light Foundation grant, in memory of Larry “Flame” Moore.

The foundation has a reputation for identifying future industry pioneers such as Chris Burkard and Todd Glasser. The $5,000 grant encourages winners to continue pushing the boundaries of surf photography that legendary lensman “Flame” made his life’s work.

Follow The Light 2011

This year’s event is open to the public tonight at 7pm at the Huntington Beach Shorebreak Hotel’s Main Ballroom. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to preview the future of surf photography during the biggest action sports festival in the world, The US Open of Surfing. Every year the world best surfers show up to see which photog they want to travel with in order to get their next cover shot.

Let us know who you think has the passion to take this years 5k grant donated by Swell.com. Click their names to see profolo submissions. Here’s what inspires these young lensmen:

Carlos Santana
“The feelings that I get through my photography are what fuel my passion. The most joy that I experience happens when I’m swimming in the ocean with my camera because I simply feel free and in love with what I’m doing and when I’m doing it.”

Matt Kurvin
“I spent a lot of time on the beach and in the water watching 6 inch waves peel, wishing I was small enough to ride them. I was never able to describe to people the way I saw things, especially in the ocean. It wasn’t until photography entered my world that I was finally able to do so.”

Quincy Dein
“As a photographer, I feel successful when the person viewing one of my images takes a moment to rethink what is possible. I want to inspire people to go outside, to enjoy life, and to explore.”

Ricky Lesser
He has traveled the world, photographing some its most unique locations and people. Lessers’ unique ability to craft story through imagery is second only to his unbridled optimism and enthusiasm for life. He currently resides in Manhattan Beach, surrounded by his greatest muses – his wife Bekah, son Noah and the enduring, domineering Pacific.

Duncan Macfarlane
“During high school I doodled with some smaller point and shoot cameras and then a Nikonos V, which I flooded because I knew nothing of seals and water photography. That prompted me to get a DSLR and from there I have been shooting for the last few years learning as I go.”
