SWELL Snapshot: Duncan Macfarlane

dunc3

Since his Follow the Light Foundation Grant Award, Duncan Macfarlane’s travel itinerary has been synonymous with the best swell stories in surf media. But surf isnt his only angle, Billabong just printed an exclusive run of Duncan’s graphic art in their spring tee line.

Here’s a little style insight from the Surfing Magazine Photographer:

SWELL: Your Instagram shows @DuncanM has been getting his passport stamped on the regular. Any newly discovered spots your dying to revisit?

Duncan:  Yeah. I’ve been on the move a fair bit the past year or two. Among the usual surf destinations like Indo and Europe I have to say Sri Lanka was on of my favourites. I’d love to head back there one day. (more…)

#SWELLivin

swell_workout_645
About seven years ago, I made a huge decision that really changed the way I viewed working out. I decided to work out for my health, instead of looks. It was one of the best decisions of my life. The more I focused on trying to be healthy and take care of my body, instead of trying to look like someone else, or achieve a magic number on a scale, is when everything started to fall into place. You realize working out is all about health, longevity and happiness, not about six packs, and selfies.

So, I say choose to workout for a bunch of reasons (I listed a few above. Google “health benefits of working out” and be prepared for over a weeks worth of reading), but please, pretty please, stray from working out in order to look like someone else, especially if that someone is in a photoshopped pic.

Photo Tip: Kelsey Finn

Photo Tip of the Week from photo contributor, Kelsey Finn…
Whenever I go out for the day with my camera gear, my favorite item I will never leave behind is a good lens cloth. It is really easy to get a small piece of dust or a smear on your port, and there is no fixing it once you are in the water! I have had some days where I took an awesome photo, only to discover a blurry lines in the middle. The disappointment could have been prevented if I had cleaned my port and lens thoroughly before jumping in the ocean.  So be sure to clean off your camera lens, your port – INSIDE and OUT!
