Photo Tip Of The WeekMatt Kurvin Explains Shooting Different Vantage Points During a Single Session

It’s easy to find a good spot when photographing a surf session and plant yourself there for the entire time. Many times what you get are a lot of great photos, but all of them tend to be very similar in composition.

Yes, you can shoot long lenses and short (still recommended), shoot high and low, but the vantage point remains the same. I like to move around a bit and see what I can get. or me it keeps the day exciting, because I never know what I might find.

Let’s take a recent day at Pipeline for example.

1. I  started down the beach at Rocky Point, first setting up a nice line-up shot (above)

2. Then, while still shooting from down the beach, I pulled it in a bit to capture a guy in the barrel.

eatme
Eat me. When talking fruits and veggies, it’s a no brainer. You gotta eat them as much as possible. Don’t like them? Well guess what, you aren’t three any more, so deal with it. It’s the easiest way to 1: get nutrients into your body, 2: fill up in a healthy way, and 3: Eat lower calorie snacks and meals.

When I gained a lot of weight after living in France for a while (what can I say, I indulged) I met with a nutritionist, and in a world where all you hear is don’t eat this, don’t eat that, don’t don’t don’t…he gave me the best advice: eat as much produce as you want. I love to eat. This was great news. Yhatzee.

So, just try and eat some sort of fruit or veggie with every meal (sorry, fried and covered in Ranch dressing does not count), and you’ll notice a difference. Your body will start to crave them, and then it’s smooth sailing from there.

Photo Tip Of The WeekKona Water Photog, Sarah Lee Explains Her Perspective On "The Golden Hour"

4-sarahlee_sunset_duckdive

The Golden Hour…  Underwater
“The last 30 minutes of sunlight isn’t just beautiful above water … it is insanely beautiful BELOW the sea as well. It’s taken me awhile to consider shooting underwater during sunset.  Maybe it’s because I would rather be surfing, but recently, I have fallen in love with golden hour, underwater.

Taken on a GoPro Hero 3.  This was one of the first photos I took underwater at sunset. The waves were inconsistent but the weather was gorgeous, so for this wave I held the GoPro steady the first set wave passed over me, and thanks to the low light + warm rays of the setting sun, it created this effect.  Photoshop-free”

“Within the last 30 minutes of sunset … no need for camera filters when the warm sun glows like this on her skin! Open your eyes next time you duck dive at sunset.  The light rays are incredible, and I was finally able to capture it with this photograph.” -Sarah Lee

#SWELLivinA Weekly Series from Goldfish Kiss Blogger, Rebekah Steen

swell-outdoor-workouts-650
When the weather is ohhhh so sweet, the last place you want to be is in a gym, on a treadmill, trying not to notice the dude next to you who just happens to be wearing running shorts (yes, THOSE kind) and a sweater under his too tight tank top. Although people watching in a gym is always entertaining (especially if you are at Gold’s gym in Venice, it’s unreal), I’d rather think of a way to be get some cardio in the great outdoors…particularly at the beach. So, walk your dog, go for a barefoot run, surf, paddle, swim, dive, cruise around on your bike, or splash around in the waves for a bit. Just get out, get creative, and get motivated by the mixture of some fresh air and a little sweat.
