West Coastin’ | San Onofre A Series On Sand + Sun with Guest Blogger Leah.

leah
There is nothing better than a three day weekend, especially when it’s 80 degrees out every single day. I got out of the house during this short holiday and wandered down to San Onofre. We parked our little surf mobile right on the sand and spent the whole day surfing, sleeping, and eating. I wore my vintage shorts while I was surfing, swimming,  and rolling around in the sand. They are not only a sexy fit, but are also my favorite bright, but faded colors. They keep you warm in the water and make for a cute little getup on the sand. After a full day, I began packing up and wore the perfect basic coverup just as the wind came up. I love this simple, fun dress as it goes with any bikini underneath and has a v-neck with lace up strings that make it fun to run and twirl around in. It was a perfect day with the perfect pieces. When you are headed for sun and surf all you need is a coverup, bikini, and wetsuit shorts… and your board of course.

SeaMade: The Budget Surf Trip | San Diego Edition

surfing-cardiffPhoto: Billy Watts | Wetsuit: Billabong Surf Capsule

Need some outdoor inspo? If you’re in San Diego, it’s right in your backyard…
I was one of that kids that liked sleeping in a tent in my own backyard even though I had a perfectly good bedroom inside the house. That desire continues now that I live in Encinitas and have the camp vibes of San Elijo Campground down the street from me. It is truly glamping at it’s finest (glamorous camping for all you rugged outdoorsy folk). Waking up on a cliff above the beach where there are a bunch of fun surf spots and tons of beachy things to do doesn’t sound too shabby to me. Not to mention all the good grinds and cafes nearby to fuel up. It’s a non-commitment, budget-friendly vacay that you can plan the day of (outside of the high season that is). Nowhere near San Diego? Find your closest campground and reserve a spot now. Go on…give yourself a break from the usual four wall structure and take a neighborhood glampout to get in on the luxurious beach-camp vibes. Read on for the SeaMade guide to camping in North County San Diego… (more…)

When it comes to the beach and your hair, it’s good to take a styling sabbatical.

Really, please do, it’s quite therapeutic.

I recently returned from a trip to Mexico, where I went about 6 days without washing brushing conditioning or doing anything to my hair. Mainly because I forgot to pack a brush, comb or conditioner (and the hotel didn’t have the little bottles in the room). But you know what.? It all worked out. And you know what else? My hair kind of was kind of amazing, full of volume, insanely messy…and I am still finding sand in my scalp a week later. Which is one of my favorite souvenirs.

The moral of the story: There is no such thing as a bad hair day when sand & salt are part of the equation.

SWELL Snapshot: Duncan Macfarlane

dunc3

Since his Follow the Light Foundation Grant Award, Duncan Macfarlane’s travel itinerary has been synonymous with the best swell stories in surf media. But surf isnt his only angle, Billabong just printed an exclusive run of Duncan’s graphic art in their spring tee line.

Here’s a little style insight from the Surfing Magazine Photographer:

SWELL: Your Instagram shows @DuncanM has been getting his passport stamped on the regular. Any newly discovered spots your dying to revisit?

Duncan:  Yeah. I’ve been on the move a fair bit the past year or two. Among the usual surf destinations like Indo and Europe I have to say Sri Lanka was on of my favourites. I’d love to head back there one day. (more…)
