Photo Tip: Kelsey Finn

Photo Tip of the Week from photo contributor, Kelsey Finn…
As with taking photos on land, if you are shooting with natural light and want your subject lit well and not as a silhouette, make sure the sun is behind you! But, if the sun is not at a lower angle closer to the horizon, ask your model to look up to the surface to have the sun light up their face!

Adios, UC Santa Barbara babes, you will be missed. The Billabong Bikini Truck, powered by SWELL is packing up and on the road to San Diego. Yesterday, Bikini lovers from Isla Vista (i.e., 99.9% of girls who live in Isla Vista) had the first chance to come aboard the bikini showroom and slide out into Greek Park.
All for a good cause. Our hostesses from Delta Gamma helped to orchestrate our first charity event. With nine sororities competing for their charity of choice, the house with the highest sales of the day took home 10% of proceeds to give to their charity.
And the winners….Delta Gamma! Over $300 was raised for Service for Sight!

Thank you everyone for coming out to support your cause…while finding a few Billabong Bikinis, VonZipper shades, and Pura Vida bracelets along the way of course.

Read on for photos from the UCSB Bikini Truck stop + Instagram contest winners.

SeaMade: Float On A series on surf, cross training and lessons on all things salty by guest blogger, Madison

I don’t know about you, but life has been hectic lately. Between my final semester of college and a couple of jobs, finding time for fun & games takes major time management skills. But you know what? We can still find time to do the things we love. One of the best secrets I’ve found is to say “F it” and procrastinate a little. During these moments of rebellion, heading to the ocean can be the biggest savior in the midst of chaos. Go surfing without the mindset that you have to catch the most waves or perform the best. Instead, go with the mindset of pure gratitude for the ocean and take advantage of its support.

Lately, I’ve been going for midday surfs when the crowds are light and the sun is out in full force. Even if the waves are tiny, you’ll never regret going surfing as long as you go with a positive attitude. Paddling out to the kelp beds or outside your local lineup and simply floating around will give you a few moments of peace and clarity that your mind so desperately needs.  You’ll see…looking back at the shore from a half mile or more out at sea is just one of those feel good moments that nothing else really compares too. Float on…

In the world of workout gear, there is a plethora of options. But, you know what I think the best kind of gear is? The kind that’s drenched in sweat. Sweat soaked, I just had a great workout and this is my proof, and I have to do laundry a ton each week because I am so sweaty…type of gear. I like to think of it as the Rocky Balboa mentality. Rocky wore the same grey sweats day in and day out. I doubt he was really trying to score any fashion points, and well, he rocks. Literally.

In a close second, (or perhaps tie). Is workout gear that’s drenched/covered/slathered in sand. Probably because of a long beach run,  a barefoot beach workout, or perhaps even a beach volleyball match.

…I think Rocky would approved of that gear too.
