Tired of the vicious cycle of spinach wraps and Sepia filters on Instagram? Break the mold and curate a gallery of double-tap worthy adventure shots—it’s not as hard as it sounds. Most of the time, creating a gorgeous Instagram gallery isn’t about where you are, it’s about how you shoot it (because any outdoor excursion, big or small, is pretty dang beautiful). And keep in mind, Instagram isn’t just about racking up followers—it can be a great way to revisit your favorite moments and connect with old friends easily. Here, eight tips for taking better outdoor Instagram shots you’ll definitely “like” for a long time to come—even if you aren’t a professional photographer.
Figure out what your goal is with your gallery—is it to tell a story? Chronicle your life? Score a sponsorship? Let that dictate what your photos look like.
Tip #1: Rethink Your Instagram
My friend Kat Carney, who happens to have one of the most beautiful Instagram galleries I’ve seen yet, once told me to think about my Instagram as if I were curating a small, square art gallery—advice that’s totally changed the look of my own account! Instead of snapping everything and anything and posting it, try being pickier with what you share with the world.
