SeaMade: Float On A series on surf, cross training and lessons on all things salty by guest blogger, Madison

I don’t know about you, but life has been hectic lately. Between my final semester of college and a couple of jobs, finding time for fun & games takes major time management skills. But you know what? We can still find time to do the things we love. One of the best secrets I’ve found is to say “F it” and procrastinate a little. During these moments of rebellion, heading to the ocean can be the biggest savior in the midst of chaos. Go surfing without the mindset that you have to catch the most waves or perform the best. Instead, go with the mindset of pure gratitude for the ocean and take advantage of its support.

Lately, I’ve been going for midday surfs when the crowds are light and the sun is out in full force. Even if the waves are tiny, you’ll never regret going surfing as long as you go with a positive attitude. Paddling out to the kelp beds or outside your local lineup and simply floating around will give you a few moments of peace and clarity that your mind so desperately needs.  You’ll see…looking back at the shore from a half mile or more out at sea is just one of those feel good moments that nothing else really compares too. Float on…

You see a lump of water looming in the distance, you get syked, and turn to go. But oh snap- that wave snuck up and before you know it, you’re getting thrown over the falls. You pretty much just got owned by mama ocean and it doesn’t feel good.
Today on SeaMade we are stripping surfing down to one of the key fundamentals- dropping in.

Inspiration LA: JJ Wessels – Matix Ambassador A conversation over musty vintage clothes? 'But I Like it!"

Gabe Clement and JJ with the "Inspiration LA" one-off tee that was printed during the event.

SWELL: Hey JJ, thanks for taking some time to talk to us. “Inspiration LA” is pretty awesome and somewhat overwhelming for me, It’s my first year at the event. Have you been to the event before this year? How has your experience been so far?

JJ: I’ve been coming to the event since it started really, I was invited by Rin Tanaka. One of my friends, Brian Bent, was featured in a book that Rin published, and I think thats how I met him. It’s been the best event so far, definitely the best turnout. It’s something I wouldn’t miss. it’s something where I’m like “Inspiration is coming up! when is it? where is it?” type thing. (more…)
