San Clemente Surf Report From The Dude (2/11)

A day in the life of The Dudeski,

Good arvo boys and girls. Just wanted to fill everybody in with a few pics of today’s waves and let everybody know how the waves have been lately in the South Orange County area. The Southern California area has had some inclement weather here and there the past week or so, but there have been some pretty magical moments for waves in between. As far as today goes it was kinda midday doo-doo in the T street zone. There were a few chest-high, wind blown crumblers where you could get a few carves off, but other than that there wasn’t much happening out there and the water temp has dropped a fair amount. Although the overall combers were pretty lackluster today Jason “Millertime,” the “Eggman” and I did have some fun due to the fact that it was pretty much only the 3 of us out sharing the sets off of the Cropley’s peak. Yesterday Millertime and I pretty much scored some serious bombs at a secret spot south of T-street. Wedging head-high to overhead peaks. Shhhhhhhh! As far as last weekend went once again Millertime, Brandon Ragu, Nate Yeomans, Drew and I scored some really fun ones in the trestles region. I did a few marathon sessions since the waves were pretty much pumpeen all day with calm winds til dusk. All and all the past week I’ve pretty much had a shit-eatin grin on my face due to the few windows of opportunity I have had to score some fun ones with me mates in between the torrential down pours. I hope all of you boys and girls were able to score a few fun ones as well this past week.

Until next time-
Shoots.

SCHS Surf Team Spotlight: Doug van Mierlo

seafest_copy

“Take it one heat at a time.”
True words to live by; especially when they’re coming from the 2008 NSSA men’s high school state champion. At 17, Douglas McLean van Mierlo, AKA “Dougie” or “Dougie Fresh,” has the world on a string—and the weight of it on his shoulders. Not that he can’t handle it. Modest, intuitive and surprisingly cautious, he’s a dream player for any coach and a standout leader on any team.

“Work first, then play” is Doug’s other motto, and one that has helped him maintain a near perfect GPA as well as a coveted position as an instructor at a local summer surf camp. (more…)

DAILY (ALMOST) S.C. SURF SESH FROM ASK A DUDE

bill-1

Hey boys and girls, here’s yer surf report for Tuesday, February 3rd. Well today was an absolute gorgeous beach day! Around 80 degrees without a breath of onshore wind. Sheets.  Although the weather and wind were perfectly ideal for surfing, there was unfortunately very little surf. With the tide bottoming out midday the ocean resembled Lake Titicaca in the Orange County area.  Complete doo-doo. You would’ve had to have been the size of a gecko to have any fun. The good news is it looks like we have some Kamchatka/Aleutian activity headed our way for the latter part of the week. Stay tuned.

Until next time- Shoots.

NEW: DAILY S.C. SURF SESH FROM ASK A DUDE

bill

It’s the know-all of all to be unknown-the Dude. You asked for it, so here it is…a daily dose of the Dude in an easy to swallow, surf report form. A surf sesh guide from a guy that actually paddled out. No speculation from the heated seat of a Escalade here. Crack it open and enjoy…

Waves were kinda fun today at the T street zone. Zippy little waist-chest high combers coming in with unreal conditions. Glassy and about 75 degrees on the beach. There were even a few girlies layin’ out in bikinis gettin’ bronzed. The local S.C. crew, as usual, was blowin up. Jason “I’m probably gonna lose a lot in vegas this weekend” Miller, Brando “Ragu” Ragenovich, and Dane Ward were all filleting the rippable little wedgers. I was stoked when those guys finally paddled in cuz that meant I could finally catch a few.

Until next time cheers to all!
