Surf Training with Alana Blanchard Improve Your Surfing with Alana's Trainer, Summer.

It’s a typical winter day on Kauai.  It is 70 degrees, windy, rainy with a bit of sunlight shining through the clouds.  Alana walks in the studio. I ask her how she is and how the surf is.  She answers, “Fun but a bit blown out.”  She’s an optimist I know and will usually make the best out of every situation.  She says I’m ready for “a really good workout”.  I know what this means; Alana is one of my strongest clients.  And I’ve been doing this for 12 years with all levels of professional athletes.  She is amazing.  She is an animal…this will be a tough workout.  Here is her workout: (more…)

SeaMade: On the Road Packing Essentials for a Surf Road Trip.

Feeling antsy? There’s nothing quite like hitting the road with an uncharted destination. Knowing that there will be waves along the way and adventures to be had, but not knowing the precise destinations is all part of the fun on a road trip. I recommend having a general idea of where to go based on swells. Map out a flexible route that allows time for exploring and kicking back at camp- whether that’s at a campground of a lodge of some sort. Wherever you go, remember: “There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.” – J. Kerouac

So get out there and do it in comfort…(read on for the list of packing essentials)

SeaMade: The Budget Surf Trip | San Diego Edition

surfing-cardiffPhoto: Billy Watts | Wetsuit: Billabong Surf Capsule

Need some outdoor inspo? If you’re in San Diego, it’s right in your backyard…
I was one of that kids that liked sleeping in a tent in my own backyard even though I had a perfectly good bedroom inside the house. That desire continues now that I live in Encinitas and have the camp vibes of San Elijo Campground down the street from me. It is truly glamping at it’s finest (glamorous camping for all you rugged outdoorsy folk). Waking up on a cliff above the beach where there are a bunch of fun surf spots and tons of beachy things to do doesn’t sound too shabby to me. Not to mention all the good grinds and cafes nearby to fuel up. It’s a non-commitment, budget-friendly vacay that you can plan the day of (outside of the high season that is). Nowhere near San Diego? Find your closest campground and reserve a spot now. Go on…give yourself a break from the usual four wall structure and take a neighborhood glampout to get in on the luxurious beach-camp vibes. Read on for the SeaMade guide to camping in North County San Diego… (more…)
