Restore The Shore: Ergo Hurricane Relief

Our friends at Ergo have deep roots in the East Coast Surf Scene, and they’ve mobilized to assist those uprooted in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. After watching their beloved coastal communities get consumed by the sea, a massive effort to Restore the Shore is currently underway.

“There was ten-foot bombs in Mantoloking spitting after the storm. It couldn’t even put a smile on my face. I was just like ‘F**k you!’ to the ocean.” Says Sam Hammer (via Surfline) When dozens of century old landmark piers and boardwalks were destroyed, so was the 38 billion dollar tourism industry in the beach communities that hosted the Quiksilver Pro New York just last year.

With people still stranded in without essential resources to survive, surf companies like Ergo, Hurley and Billabong are scrambling to deliver much needed supplies before the next storm hits the suffering residents.

Ergo has commissioned a special edition Restore the Shore apparel collection with 100% of the profits supporting hurricane relief.

Billabong arrived with truck loads of winter gear for the thousands of survivors forced from their homes, as they brace for a cold Nor Easter weather system.

Hurley and Jon Rose arrived with their Waves for Water support which provides Do-it-Yourself water filtration systems.

#StokesMe -Surfers Helping Humans

You can only catch so many waves until the surf gods decide you need to share with others, and there no better way to share the feeling than stoking out humans in need of special care. It’s been medically proven that surfing is a therapeutic  activity unlike any other, improving metal and physical condition of those with Autism, Cystic Fibrosis and more. #StokeMe raises funds and awareness to 10 causes that surfers can easily support.  It is the SIMA cause formally known as the Humanitarian Fund.

Champions of the causes include Kala Alexander, Nick Hernandez of Common Sense, surf companies like Billabong, Surfline, Ocean Minded, Volcom and Nixon. The goal is to raise $250,000 for the 10 beneficiaries (below), and to raise awareness through the power of social media with #StokesMe on Twiiter, Instagram and Facebook. Hashtag #StokesMe to spread the good vibes and share what psyches you up like surfing, skiing or just smiling.  Join the SWELL team with a any size donation, and put a smile on someone who needs it.

The #StokesMe campaign benefits 10 different charities that any human can relate to.  Lean more  about the causes, and help reach the goals to provide the needed assistance on the SWELL fundraising page. Can’t afford it? Share your stoke with friends to get the good word out with #stokesme on your social media. See what’s trending on the #stokesme twitter thread.
