The Newport 500 | Volcom Surf Championships

volcom4

The 2014 “Newport 500″ Totally Crustaceous Tour Championships are complete! Track conditions started out clean, but as the day rolled on things got pretty hectic. Not even high wind advisories and sand storms could slow the competitors down as they continued to put the pedal to the metal all the way to the last lap. Thanks for the good times and all the Volcom Gear

A Slice Of Life | Flat Day Fun Guest Series by Stephanie Schechter

image-1
Ah, springtime in coastal Southern California. The sun is shining, the birds are singing… and the waves are FLAT. With the exception of the one or two rare days we are presented with some late Santa Ana winds and some early south swells, spring is certainly not the season for surf here in the golden state. Unfortunately, for us surf junkies, that means we have to get our exercise in other ways! Luckily, we live in a pretty rad place, so this doesn’t mean our only option for our daily workouts require a gym membership.

Behind the Cover | Pete Frieden

SWELL welcomes the exotic photo works of Pete Frieden, another lensman carrying on the legacy of Larry “Flame” Moore. After years of working with Flame at Surfing Magazine, he circled the globe covering the World Championship Surfing Tour.

Peter captured these critical images near his home in Bali and Hawaii’s iconic North Shore. Pete gives us some insight into his camera choice on the slab hunting missions in SWELL’s summer catalog.

SeaMade: #CityWild 3rd Point Stories of native wanderings by blogger, Madison

bhbsurf_SeaMade_CityWild_3rdPoint
Exiting the canyon and making our way down Las Virgenes Road, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we had come. From the campground to our makeshift trail to cliff jumps and stream paddles, we were all feeling really psyched and ready to jump in the ocean. The panoramic ocean view kept our minds off the heat mirages coming up off the pavement to lick our ankles.
