SWELL took a quick trip to the Billabong Merchandise & Design dept to meet the Brother-Sister team behind this radical new of tropical tee in the August SWELL Catalog
SWELL: Ryan, what’s your role in the Billabong M&D team?
RM: I’m a Senior In-House Artist for Billabong USA. Among various creative duties, I primarily design graphics and artwork for the Men’s tee shirt line, working everyday with type, illustration and graphic design. A few SWELL savages “followed the Fish” to LA Hard Summer Festival and Cut Snake basically blew out our eardrums and our minds. The DJ duo has been getting after it for over 10 years, since Paul & Leigh bought a mixer to pass the times during down days on the professional surf tour.
Since hooking up with Destructo, the Cut Snake boys are on a tear through the EDM tour, rocking out in these SWELL summer styles.

How’d you get your start in the Sanuk Footwear family?
I got thrown into the mix randomly by JK, he straight up invited me to check out the building and grab a pair of shoes. The next thing I know I am in a conference room talking about factories, footwear construction and materials. I had no resume, no portfolio just a computer with things I had been working on. Soooo caught off guard, but looks like it worked! JK is the man, I owe it all to him. (more…)
