Eric “EG” Geilselman Joins HEX Surf Team

The HEX team just added one of surfing’s top names with the signing Eric Geiselman. Just like HEX products, Eric has developed cutting edge style and precise yet progressive lines.

“Eric is the man, and having known him for quite sometime I couldn’t be more stoked to finally bring him into our program,” said Carl Steindler, marketing manager at HEX. “Not only is the guy always smiling, but he seems to be good at anything he does and within those pursuits he’s constantly embracing technology. Those facts, coupled with his amazing surfing ability make him the perfect person to represent the HEX brand and be a true ambassador for us.”

Eric Geiselman, known simply as “EG” to most, is one of the surfing worlds more diverse personalities. Raised in the New Smyrna Beach area of Florida, EG had a very accomplished and successful “Juniors” competition career. Now residing with little brother Evan in San Clemente, California, EG can still be found competing on the WQS circuit; however, he is most known for his radical freesurfing abilities. In addition to his surfing skills, Eric is also a talented skater, video editor, and musician – basically he lives a life full of activities that are either expressive or hands on. But, if you do catch him in that rare moment of relaxation, then his ear-to-ear grin will most likely say it all and no words will be needed.

“I’m so stoked to be a part of the HEX family,” said Eric. “I really love the fashion-forward design of all the products, and its functionality makes it so I use them all on a daily basis. I’m greatly looking forward to the future and good times along the way!”

Katin Sponsors Team USA Olympic Water Polo

When we say we have the world’s best boardshorts, we mean it. Katin is the sponsor and preferred active-wear of the USA Olympic Water Polo team.  Southern California being a breeding ground polo stars, the Huntington Beach based surf company was proud to support these 14 London-bound American Olympians all born and raised in California beach towns. Most of the boys grew up in the South LA Bay seeing lifeguards and waterman wearing these Katin trunks that have over 60 years for research and development.

(L to R) Team USA led by Tony Azevedo (middle). Chay Lapin, Janson Wigo, Shea Buckner and Andy Stevens train in Katin gear.

The boys have been training with Katin’s new line of performance sport-cut shorts and signature Team USA tops, all available at SWELL. A portion of the proceeds benefit the team in their campaign to bring a gold medal back home. Support team USA by rocking the Olympic themed tees and following our hometown heroes starting Sunday July 29.

Nathan Fletcher -Surf and Style

Two decades after pioneering aerials in San Clemente beachbreaks, Nathan Fletcher blew everyone’s mind again with “The Heaviest Wave Ever Ridden” in Tahiti last year. It sparked yet another comeback in his pro surfing career that has earned him the title of an antihero of our sport. Awarded with the best overall big-wave performance of 2011, he non-nonchalantly pushes the envelope and escapes death on a regular basis. When asked if surfing has made him a rich man, he responded “Yes…but not with money.”

Listen to Nathan retell his historic session that started with hitchhiking to chopes that morning.
*Warning: This will give you goosebumps

Its no coincidence that he represents brands with mottos like “unlikely futures” being that he lives in a trailer and casually converses about the expectation of drowning. But his superior surfing ability does not share the same affinity for the spotlight as today’s youth. He quit surfing at the age of 16 because the spotlight seemed lame to him, and the tattoo on his calf “KILL ME” further explains his disdain for stardom.

Who knew that not giving a damn about anything translated into iconic style.
Here’s how he does it

Nixon Watches: In his quest for that one wave that pays the bills all year long, Nathan relies on Nixon tide watches to stay dialed into the best surf conditions.

Stretch surfboards: His signature bat tailed “The Thing” board pushes the limits of progressive surfing. That’s right, at the age of 36 he’s still punting new-school aerials.

Analog Clothing: Don’t get caught looking like every other schmuck in town. Analog deisgns clothes for antiheros like Fletcher, Chippa and Koby Abberton.

Vans Footwear: Classic, simple, and timeless just like Mr Fletcher himself.

Oakley Sunglasses: Heavy travel calls for bullet proof gear…and these lenses are actually bulletproof.

“Nathan is a F–king legend” -Herbie Fletcher
