Top 10 Spring 2011 Swim Trends

Curious to what you’ll be rocking when it comes to swim come next Spring? Fret not Whiskers. Straight from the Miami Swim Show, the grand daddy of swimwear shows…the top trends for Spring 2011 bikinis.

1. Bandeaus with…
Medallion, Buttons, Beads, Starfish, Shells, Lucky Rabbit Feet, etc. at the center
Bandeaus with anything at the center will be setting off a significant number of metal detectors in 2011.

2. Heavy on the Trims:
In addition to continuing with this years’ zippers & fringe, 2011 adds some bows, leather, suede and new long tassel-like ties to the mix.

3. Custom Prints
Generic aloha prints didn’t make the cut, both literally and figuratively. Designers opted for stand-out and signature prints, including neon mixed with muted grey and pastels, vintage chevron stripes, and customized tribals.

4. To one-piece, or not to one-piece?
That isn’t really a question. You know this. Yes, you’ll be wearing one next year. It’ll have some cut-outs, maybe a bandeau top, possibly with a bandeau top, zipper, or tiger.

5. “Make it yours” styles

Spring 2011 takes the idea of building a bikini wardrobe to the next level with customizable trims and ties that can be styled to make it unique to you. Fold-over bottoms that can be turned into high-waisted styles, tops that can be tied and knotted and flipped a gazillion different ways, and trims that attach to wherever you feel like at the moment.

6. Cut-Outs: Side cut-outs on bottoms and tops

7. Ruched and Scalloped Bottoms:
I think Confuscious, or maybe it was Brigitte Neilson that once said something about, “that which flatters the derriere hath maketh the proverbial cut.” Or something like that. Point is they look good, we mean REALLY good. Hence they’re appearance in every line next year. And we mean every line.

8. Fold-Over Bottom:
Again, we can’t resist the amazingly flattering look of the fold-over bikini bottom. Get ready for the end of the muffin top era.

9. Mixed prints: striped with flowers, dots and tribal…

10. Retro Colors:
Gunmetal, Seafoam, Emerald Green, Taupe, Yellow, Burnt Orange, Gold, and Vintage White.
Taking colors cues from the 60’s and 70’s, while leaving some of the over-the-top 80’s neons in the dust, colors for next year reflect vintage-inspiration and creative combos.

Streeetchy Pants….2010 Performance Boardshort Review

If Hydrostretchosaurus and Superstretcharmstrong mean nothing to you, you’re not “not with it” (that’s a double negative there), and you’re not alone. The new performance boardshort generation can be overwhelming, and like a child wandering in during the middle of a movie, most of us are completely of our element on this one.

Testing 101: With the most advanced scientific methods available, including a fusion of lunges and squats, the water-cooler dip, and rigorous Indian-burn-to-arm testing, our investigatory team ranked every performance boardshort available…both sides of the Mississippi.

Our Highly Scientific Results (Boom):

Best Overall Shredability: Billabong PX 1. Although tied with the Hurley Phantom 120 on stretch-factor, the PX 1 came through with water-repellent coating, welt seams, and an ultra light neoprene feel. This one is for those that are “in it to win it”, or so they say.

Most Added Features: O’Neill Hyperfreak 2.0. For the tech-obsessed, the O’Neill Hyperfreak 2.0 will have you frothing at the mouth. Features include neoprene stretch panels, a streamlined zip pocket, locking drawstring with rubber grip, anti-rash facings, and welded seams throughout. Put that in your pipe and shred it.

Most Performance For Your Peso: Billabong Platinum X Quad Hydro Stretch. The length of it’s name is only surpassed by the number of styles available. Coming in a low of $44.50, the 4-way stretch is an all-around solid buy. You’ll definitely get what you need, and have a little cash left over for to upgrade to the California burrito.

Best Feel: Quiksilver Cypher Series and Swell D-Day. With an eye out for your jewels, the raised pattern at the inside of these boardshorts keeps your sesh solid and rash-free. And you can’t put a price on that. Oh, wait, you can- $45 for the solid styles. That’s a $45 well spent.

Most Style Points: RVCA Stretch Boardshorts. Style- a feature often overlooked in by tech-lovers and judging criteria purists. But damn RVCA has style. Winners include the “Victory” for shameless patriot points, and the “Transit II and III” for no other reason than their undisputed rad factor.
