Roark Vinyl Record Release -Free with Purchase

Roark has many vices. Simone and Las Diablitas Borrachas are high on the list. So they pressed a limited quantity of 7″ vinyl to include in every Roark purchase on SWELL.

The band is revealed in Volume 2 of the Roark chronicles at a seedy bar named “Paris De Noche” in the bowels of Ensenada, Mexico. Las Diablitas are posse of self-proclaimed banditos mysteriously lead by a sexy French-Mexican chica named Simone. They describe their sound as Mescla. “Mescla being a mixture of music from all over the world. A little French. Espana from Spain. Flamenco Astyilo. Flamenco style. Musica punk rock. Musica rock.”

The band was recently granted a one-day work visa from the Mexican government to perform a secret Roark show in Laguna Beach, Ca. What ever it is, it’s raw and hard to understand if you don’t speak Espanol. Las Diablitas disappeared back across the boarder, but here’s a couple shots from the show

Go Skateboarding Day 2012

On June 21 skateboarders around the globe will celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding. OK, most skateboarders do this every day of their lives, but this is just one more reason to bail your Job, tv, computer and go skateboarding!

Ya, we know it follows International Surfing Day, but why not throw a back-to-back blitzkrieg of boarding right when school gets out. Skaters hit the pavement in over 200 cities worldwide and Cops don’t stand a chance at stopping us.

Here’s footage from last year’s event in San Diego.

Our favorite gathering goes down in Mission Beach, Ca where the Sector Nine boys throw an annual “Poker Run.” Hundreds of Nine-Ballers of all ages race down the boardwalk collecting poker cards from various checkpoints. The best hands of 5-card-stud take home free skates and sweaty wads of cash. If your in the area, come to the South Mission Jetty between 12-2pm. Only the first 100 skaters will get to play, but anyone can join the skate parade.

New Beater Edit & New Beaters On the Site

Listen up folks, we just secured a bunch of new Twin and Single fin sleds from the Beater masterminds at Catch Surf. These guys have been hitting the local beach breaks hard, putting their latest equipment to the test and the results are in: the 2012 boards are stiffer, faster, and better than ever!

JOHNNY REDMOND CUTTING LOOSE from Catch Surf on Vimeo.

Their latest edit takes us from T-Street to 204s and back where Johnny Redmond absolutely destroys every drop of water in his path. The enhanced stringer system is plenty visible as he throws buckets off the back and lands some serious eyebrow raising maneuvers (check 0:55!!).

In this edit Johnny gets super weird on his beater without making a scene. Unlike hard-board surfing that’s all serious with its laundry list of unspoken rules, Beater surfing is all about having fun. Whether it’s riding your board like a dead cockroach or spinning uncontrollably into a close out section, beater surfing lets you cut loose and enjoy the surf no matter what the size.

When the surf gets smaller grab yourself an Odysea LOG to maximize your wave count at your local break. On small days you’ll find the Catch Surf guys doing the same at their favorite surf spot at Oak Street in LB!!

Whether you are dropping into a bomb on your 8’ LOG or milking some inside shorey on your 54” Beater, these foamy wonderboards are perfect for a fun day at the beach.
