XCEL Eco-Ventix Surf Shirts Will Save Your Life Hybrid, UV-Protecting, Breathable, Quick Dry, Eco Friendly, All-Sport Surf Shirts
The innovations at Xcel keep coming, and their new line of sport tops will literally save your hide. Every outdoorsman knows somebody who has suffered from melanoma or a similar cancerous affliction caused by sun exposure, that is why Xcel developed UV-defending alternative to the tight fitting rashguard.
Hawaiian waterman extraordinaire and Xcel ambassador Kaipo Guererro breaks down this core performance attire:
Xcel is based in Haleiwa on the North shore of Oahu, commonly refereed to as “The Proving Grounds” demanding the highest standards in product performance. Since many watermen loath the tight fit of spandex rashguards, an alternative shield from the elements was needed. The quick drying fabric and relaxed fit of surf-shirts has become an essential for surfer looking to travel light and extend their session without worrying about re-applying sun-block.

The sport of Stand Up Paddling created a demand for hybrid gear that protects from UV rays and reflections, but won’t overheat. There’s much less bodily contact with the water while SUPing than you’d think, and there’s no place to stash that hoody when that crisp morning gives way to relentless heat. The Hybrid tops have Eco Ventix fabric in high-heat areas like the sleeves and back, while the chest panel is made of high performance rashgruard Lycra. This balance of sun-protection, breath-ability, flex, fit, and quick drying features makes this the best sport top in the world. To top it off, its made from recycled fibers and benefits the Xcel Cancer Foundation!

Our friends at Surfing Magazine had no complaints about shooting the 2012 Swimsuit edition on the North Shore of Oahu this winter. Sydney and Natazha put on a clinic for strutting the beach like a goddess in the hottest bikinis on the market. This year’s cover shot featured the Tyler Rose OHWAHANIGHT cut, and other flattering looks from Mikoh and Bubululu available at SWELL
After a year of everyone stealing slivers of Fu Wax from friends returning from Brazil, super gooey surf wax is now available from your favorite domestic wax makers.
Adriano de Souza sticky little secret was out after Taj, Luke Davis and Slater returned from Brazil comps with kilos of Fu Wax, and they weren’t eager to share. Perpetual hater, Jamie O’Brien and Kolohe had their doubts but the proof is in the pudding, and this stuff will turn into it when left in the sun. It’s not too much of a stretch to link Kolohe’s epic tear to make the tour with punt wax. Right when he became a believer, he started “sticking” every damn air in the book, and consequently dominated consecutive contest in his improbable road to qualification.
Watch and learn as the Sticky Bumps gurus put punt wax to the test.
Skeptics bitch about messy goo that coats anything it touches, and the Velcro bond it makes to your chest while paddling. Those claims have some validity, but a small price to pay once you pop up, “Even though I get a Brazilian wax job before every wave, it feel like there’s foot straps on. I’ve been able to ride out of some shit I never thought I’d land before” claims Bill Laity, SWELL’s surf enforcer.
1. Surf Shirt: In a recent trip to Puerto we surfed with the Billabong Skulldrag, avoiding painful wax in the chest hair and it even helped stay positioned on your board.
2. Wax Case: 2 SWELL employees have fallen victim to a full wax melt-down in their backpack and boardshorts. It completely melts in about about 20 minutes at 80F heat. Box it up with this case from Sticky Bumps, and even if it melts, you can throw it in the fridge and pop it out of the mold then re-use. It also comes with a costum sharped toothed comb to avoid a bead-less top-coat.

Beaters are back and better than ever! After being out of stock for nearly 6 months the guys at Catch Surf just unleashed their best boards yet with updated colors, an unbelievable strong new stringer system, and now a new twin fin option. These boards will transform your average day at the beach into an epic tale of radness. Check out the fresh new Beater models here or grab yourself one of their super soft tees here at SWELL.
Never heard of a Beater?
The Beater is the ultimate, all-purpose shred stick perfect for groms, geezers and anyone in between. You can surf them, skim them, ride them like a boogie board, or even tow them behind a boat. This is a necessary tool to everyone’s quiver, no matter what your skill level or riding preference!
These custom shaped, foam boards were originally created to beat the dreaded summertime black ball zones in Southern California. When summer would hit and the Southern Hemi would chun out its typical, long period south swells, many surfers were left on the shore frothing and unable to surf some of the area’s best breaks. That’s when the masterminds at Catch Surf put their heads together to produce the world’s most versatile and shred-worthy foam board: The Beater. Now, many south swells and countless sessions later, the Catch Surf crew and team riders have perfected their most durable and high-performance boards yet with the new 2012 models.
2012 Beaters: Best Beaters Yet!
A big update to the 2012 Beaters is the inner maple-ply, dual stringer system. This ingenious design gives the boards an unmatched level of stiffness for greater durability and added performance.
Here Beater madman Johnny Redmond highlights both advantages of the enhanced stringer system in the new 2012 boards.
Twin Fin Model: New to the Lineup
Now the beater is available in a twin fin option perfect surfers a little less comfortable riding a single fin and wanting a bit more hold than a finless board. With the Twin Fin Model you can draw out your bottom turns and shred your local beachie like never before!
Want to upgrade your board? You can always get your self a couple of Beater Fin Kits and customize the fin set up to your liking.
Make sure to check out the other great Catch Surf Accessories including the Beater board bag, tees, and even Catch Surf’s very own body boards and fins. These boards are on every little gremmies xmas list this year so make sure to grab one before they sell out!
Remember folks, when the black ball’s got you down JUST BEAT IT!
