Smile On Your Brother

ELEMENT EDEN ADVOCATE AMBER B. DESIGNS SKATEBOARDS FOR CHARITY

smile-21

Smile on Your Brother: It’s more than just a sweet-sounding name, although we do think it’s pretty sweet. Smile on Your Brother is a skate art (literally, skateboard art) exhibition that features creations from international artists, including Element Eden Advocate Amber B (shown above). Besides offering up the obvious eye candy, the shows help to support disadvantaged youth by contributing skateboards, providing them with an outlet for constructive freedom and helping to push them to achieve their goals.

Want to see the creations first hand? If you happen to be one of our Canadian readers, you’re in luck!

Dancing on the Surfer Poll

ry_craike

Next pro / Dancing with the Stars contestant? Ry Craike.

Ah, the Surfer Poll…as always, so predictable, yet so predictably awesome. I won’t bore you with the details, so here are some abbreviated highlights from last night’s Surfer Poll Awards in Anaheim, Ca: Multiple mentions of Alana Blanchard’s ass-ets. Dane Reynold’s acceptance speech consisted of thanking his girlfriend for giving him vitamin C and Quiksilver for the stickers. Kelly Slater won. Cory Lopez got tube ride of the year for his never-ending African mystery left in 5′5″ x 19 1/4″ Redux. And apparently, if you’re from West Oz, you’re flipping awesome. No surprises, but tons of radness. To quote Ry Craike mid-DC Shoes bus dance-off, “this is the best night of my life!”

There’s Still Time to Follow the Light!

Aug 6, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Follow the Light Foundation Announces Extended date for submissions to
The 2009 Follow the Light Foundation Surf Photographers Grant and change of date for the 4th Follow the Light Recipient dinner

$5,000 to be granted to the winning photographer

We are happy to announce that we are extending the deadline for our 2009 applications from Aug. 17 to Aug. 31, 2009. The winner of the grant for this year will now be announced on October 22, 2009 during the 2009 Follow the Light Recipient Dinner to be held on at the Surfing Heritage Museum in San Clemente, CA.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA- For the fourth year in a row, the Follow the Light Foundation (FTLF) will award $5000 to a deserving photographer in honor of the late Larry “Flame” Moore. The FTLF was founded after Moore’s passing in the attempt to continue his legacy of assisting up and coming photographers. Photographers of all ability levels are encouraged to participate. The application and details can be found on the FTLF website http://followthelightfoundation.org.

The FTLF is proud to be working with Surfing Magazine, SWELL, Hurley, Surfline and Oakley to provide this year’s grant.

About Follow the Light: On October 10th, 2005, the surfing community lost one of its most influential figures. After a nearly three-year battle with brain cancer Larry “Flame” Moore, the Photo Editor of SURFING Magazine for 30 years, passed. He left behind a legacy of brilliant photography and an army of photographers trained by him. Through his work at SURFING Magazine, Larry literally gave three decades of surfing their “look.” Today, honoring Larry’s request, we have established Follow the Light Foundation (FTLF), an organization that will help finance the dreams of surf photographers, pushing the sport and its lensmen forward.

For more information on Follow the Light Foundation Grant and submitting your application please visit http://followthelightfoundation.org/index.html or email Sam Olson @ sam@followthelightfoundation.org
