San Diego Guide, Part II: Get Your Kicks at Raglan Public House, OB A Guide to the Best Of SD by Guest Blogger, Dustin Towery

San Diego is home to some sweet beaches, burgers, and craft beers. Put them all together in one of SD’s most eclectic beach towns and you’ll be walking among the local OBetians at Raglan Public House. This New Zealand inspired spot boasts a line up of burgers and brews from NZ serving the only organic and grass fed beef in SD, kumara fries, and twenty four rotating beers on tap. On any given night you’ll be hanging out with the locals and enjoying a cold one with the grazing sheep on the walls. Just blocks from the waves and a skip from the pier this gem is the heart of an SD life.

Oh, and the kicker: anything goes in OB, really. This little beach town is home to the surfers, the skaters, the homeless dwellers, the hippies, the college kids, the families, and the fashionistas.

Wish We Were Here: San Francisco, Part II A Mini Travel + Style Guide with Guest Blogger Leah.

My favorite thing about this fun area is that everyone bikes around town and there are several fruit stands, coffee houses, and bookstores lining the streets. After our time with the family we made our way over to the Golden Gate Bridge – such a tourist thing to do, but you gotta take a least one photo by the bridge and it is always a great way to end a mini vacation to this lovely city.

Here are some tips when you are traveling a little outside the city: (more…)

SWELL Snapshot: Chris Burkard Featured SWELL Surf Photographer Breaks Down the Journey In the Dec Catalog

SWELL stopped by Burkey’s Central Coast Studio to get some insight into his Arctic surf tales seen in the December Catalog. The inaugural Follow the Light grant winner has become a trailblazer for frosty surf expeditions, here’s how the 26 year old surf photo savant keeps crushing it.

SWELL: Explain what kind of trippy Northern Lights magic is going on the cover.

Burkard: This moment was unreal, it was as if the entire sky lit up for me and me alone. 2am… 5 hours before I left for home and the only clear night of the trip. It snowed all day and late in the evening it cleared and I knew this was my moment so I hike to the beach, 1 mile from my cabin, and shot these photos. It was one of the best experiences of my life, hands down. The sky was spiraling and channeling orange/ red blue and green… straight from the sea  to the sky. (more…)
