Seth de Rouet Win 2015 Follow the Light Award Event Recap of the Most Prestigious Ceremony in Surf Photography

3 Time Finalist Seth de Roulet of Santa Barbara took home top honors and a $5K check to further pursue his career in Surf Photography. Amidst the chaos of the US Open of Surfing was a display of surf media’s finest future lensmen. The 5 finalists presented their slideshows to a standing-room only crowd of the world’s best surfers for the 10th annual Follow the Light Foundation Awards”

Seth used a combination of his fine arts background and the Central CA Coast scenery to capture the vote of the judging panel made up of Peter Taras, Jeremiah Klein, Russ Hennings and more premier surf media captains.

Welcome to the short, fast and loud life of board #31, shaped by Matt ‘Mayhem’ Biolos. Matt’s been shaping for 28 years (he’s currently 45 years old) and is widely regarded as the best shaper for Southern California waves. But, he reaches far beyond the CA and #31 was one of thousands he made last year: “I used the foam, stringer and glass job that I use on all of Kolohe’s boards. It wasn’t a Huntington Beach go-go-go board. It was a board you could surf in powerful waves and push hard against it. It wasn’t a previously designed board, I put a bit of flare in it.

Follow the Light Finalists | Quinn Matthews The Path and Passions of Local Lensman and Follow the Light Finalist

Local  up and coming Orange County surf photographer Quinn Matthew just joined the ranks of the Follow the Light Foundation Finalists . FTLF helped launch the carers of past winners like Chris Burkard, Corey Wilson, Todd Glaser and dozens of Staff Photographer in the industry  The most prestigious award in surf photography is announced on Tuesday 2/28 at 7pm at the Shorebreak hotel.  Come witness history amongst the biggest names in surf as the 5 finalists present their slideshows of awe-inspiring surfscapes.

We caught up with Quinn to discover what drove the guy to put down his board and pick up a camera

What is it about your photography that you strive to make special and unique?
I want my photos to be impactful and leave an impression on the viewer. I want to create an image that clearly conveys an attitude or brings a subtler scene to attention. I try to put a lot of emphasis on a strong composition and creative light to make my photography stand out. (more…)
