STYLE ICON: FARRAH FAWCETT

FLAUNT IT LIKE FARRAH

Someone must be leaving the water on because we’ve been seeing a lot of Fawcett lately. As a 70’s sex symbol, famous for her feathered hair, playful style and notorious red swimsuit, Farrah Fawcett made track jackets and flared jeans sexy decades before the explosion of the velour track suit. The coming season brings a revival of her signature flares, sporty sweaters and the sexed-up one piece swimsuits. Complete with feathered hair and all; be prepared to see Fawcett’s style flooding the streets in the coming months.

DOUBLE OH-7 STYLE

Featured look: Lucy Love Maxi Stella Dress

When a girl has to compete with impeccably Italian-tailored Tom Ford suits for the spotlight, her style has to be right on cue. Throughout the classy, martini-soused years of  James Bond movies, the leading ladies have been challenged with finding fashions that can take some of the light from the man every woman wants and every man wants to be—while still appearing strong, elegant, and capable of wielding a hand gun while driving the getaway car. Think Honey Rider’s (Ursula Andress) iconic swimsuit, or Pussy Galore’s (Honor Blackman) curve-hugging sweater dresses adorned with powerful menswear accents. Such a look was once again seamlessly executed in the recent James Bond: Quantum of Solace. The spicy new leading lady, Olga Kurylenko, manages to dress in pieces that match the savvy nature of a Bond girl. With flowy, curvaceous gowns and youthful but rich separates, the new Bond girl is a perfect compliment to Daniel Craig’s (the latest actor to play Bond) high class suits. With poise, power, and undeniable sex appeal, women throughout the Bond legacy have at one time thought “I want to be her”. To get a taste of that Bond girl look, we’ve chosen some of the (more…)

STREET STYLE: OUTSIDE LOOKS AND INSIDE FINDS

street_style_11_184.jpg

Back again with a brand new edition of Street Style, the Swell  team went in search of some killer street steeze: This time on our home turf of San Clemente—because with tasty waves comes tasty duds. The highlight of the highlight-streaked looks came in a statement-making, silhouette-flattering blouse and deathly-hip white accessories to match. With the sun still blazing at a comfy 80 degrees and bikinis still at the tops of our drawers, mixing up some swanky seasonal style while keeping a tasteful dose of ray-loving colors and fabrics isn’t always the easiest task. So bravo to this tragically savvy fashion forecaster for keeping up with the region’s season in such an ease of classy vesture.

What really made our heads turn and cameras flash was the strikingly harmonious menage of a refined and frilled-out blouse, casual daytime denim, and straight from the Haight boots, wallet, and belt. A mix we could only imagine every hipster crying secret tears of joy over. Taking inspiration from a chica with stand-out style (and that says a lot with the oodles of praise-worthy looks here), we recreated this outfit to remind you that cooking up a hot ensemble doesn’t need to cost a load of dough. With the addition of some signature playful and surf-inspired details, you can get this chic and sun-drenched San Clemente look too!
