Some of the best things for your health…are rarely found in a gym.

A surfboard, a kayak, a paddle board, an outrigger, a mask and fins, hiking boots, a bike that moves, a dog, sunshine, sand, saltwater, fresh air…vitamin D. The list could go on and on. But if you think about it, some of the best things for your health, or even “health equipment” is rarely found in a gym.

If there as a gym that included all of this stuff, sign me up. As long as it’s free. And there aren’t annoying overly spray tanned men in spandex and fanny packs trying to give me surfing tips.

Clean. The best health buzz word around.

Sugar-free, low-carb, gluten-free, fat-free, low-glycemic…yup, there are a whole bunch of health buzz words out there, in terms of your diet. It all seems to go in cycles, people adjust their diets, and gladly pay the extra $7 for specially baked gluten-free, no carb, no sugar, non bread, bread. I understand there are genuine food allergies, and necessary dietary restrictions people have, which makes people have no choice but to eat a certain way. But if that’s not you, really, there is one health buzz word that’s time tested, tried and true, really makes a difference, isn’t specially labeled, and really shouldn’t cost you any extra money because of it’s trend status…. When was the last time you relaxed? Like really relaxed. With no technology, perhaps a book, and maybe a little fresh air involved? If you want to get saucy you can involve a hammock or blanket in a park. I know, It’s been a while.

For some reason we are made to feel guilty and lazy when we take time out to relax. But it’s one of the healthiest things you can do. Being constantly wound up, busy, running from place to place…really takes it’s toll on your health. Then top it all off with a lack of sleep, and yeah. That’s life. But, if you can take 10 – 20 minutes every now and then to relax and chill, it’s amazing how much more motivated, focused, and happier you will be. Try it. Your mind and body are begging you.

If you want to take a trip to a tropical destination and relax in an infinity pool, I highly recommend that as well. That will require a bit more effort, but it’s worth it.
