This past weekend, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to surf in the Malibu Boardriders Club 23rd Annual Call to the Wall surf contest, at the infamous Malibu Surfrider Beach. I have surfed in this event, a Coalition of Surfing Clubs contest for the past several years, representing my club: The Swamis Surfing Association. This year, I was thrilled to make the finals, but the real fun was had hanging out on the beach with some incredibly talented friends.
The Coalition surf contests are unlike any other surf circuit. The atmosphere is family oriented, and while there are shortboard and SUP divisions, the focus is on traditional, classic longboarding. Of course, any chance to surf Malibu – AKA “Malizoo” – with only 5 other people is something to appreciate, but we were all especially stoked that King Neptune graced us with some beautiful waist high peelers the whole weekend!
