Every year music enthusiasts gather on the third Saturday of April to celebrate Record Store Day. This festivity is something most vinyl junkies wait for all year. Luckily the wait is over: April 19th has arrived! Its purpose is to celebrate the artists, fans and the culture that surrounds the independently owned record store. Many local stores hold parties with live music, giveaways and discounts on their products. Naturally, we want you to find the best parties and get a steal-of-a-deal, so we had our employees divulge their hot spots for shopping vinyl, rummage through their collections for their favorite album, and pass along some celebratory style….

Take a moment to visualize complete chaos. Got it? Rush hour traffic in the middle of Los Angeles is a prime example that quickly comes to my mind. Now visualize the complete opposite. If you need some help, imagine this: a nature zone with over 4,000 acres just 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, complete with hiking trails and an iconic point break. When presented with an opportunity to escape chaos, Malibu Creek State Park was our calling.
Photo Tip of the Week from photo contributor, Kelsey Finn…
Get creative by adding movement and texture to photos. For example, I had an image in my mind I wanted to bring to life – a girl swimming in deep blues but all you can really see is her silhouette. But when I took the photo, it seemed like it was lacking something. I decided I needed some texture to really make the photo great. I convinced 2 friends to swim down 30 feet, lay on the ocean floor, and then blow out all their air. This created a mass of bubbles my model could swim through, and the photo came out better than I could have imagined! So don’t be afraid to think out of the box!
